Longhorn News/Discussion (Non-Recruiting)

Ok, so is that it for the scrimmages then?  They always scare me.  I know iron sharpens iron, but sometimes iron can dent or damage the other iron.  I also know guys can get injured or banged up playing a real game, but at least that is usually only 50% chance of a Longhorn getting banged up on any given play.  Right now it's 100% a Longhorn could get banged up.

Go on, or just guessing? The Insta was rather out there.
Turns out his tweet on Wednesday was pretty self-explanatory. He said big things come in ATX and something's coming 8/19/22.

There was no other news whatsoever involving Ewers on that date except for him being named the starting QB.

Despite being 71 years old, I still have the ability to add 2 and 2 and get 4 every time.

But when i added 2 and 2 I got Sark is too chicken shit to make the Red McCombs  announcement.  Did I add wrong?  I took a screen shot of me at the time

Notes from scrimmage per TFB

Banks left Practice with a lower body injury, not sure how severe but limped off the field

jamison and worthy had a big collision and both were shook up pretty good but didn’t leave the field

BMD there to watch Ewers, said they were told Ewers was throwing dimes across the field showing his undisputed talent. However there was a interception in there also.

note: OB is reporting it was cam Williams that was injured but they are the onlY source saying that so ?

The things I've read was that it was initially said to be Banks, but then it was changed to Williams. Regardless heard it was minor
IT said both Banks and Williams went out, Williams went back in and Banks was able to return although the coaches kept him sidelined since he's proven himself already.

They repeated the issue is mild.

They also wouldn't be surprised if by the end of the season the starting OL is four freshmen plus Conner.

Did Bobby happen to mention anything about why all the 9.95's completely whiffed on knowing that Sark told Ewers on Wednesday that he was the starter?
No, nothing mentioned in that regard.

Eric Nahlin had posted on IT that they perhaps overweighted one sources info, a source that has been very good to them in the past and it aligned with other things they had heard so the went with it.

Someone pointed out that in his video, it looked like he was wearing an Austin Gamblers leather vest. It sure does look like that. https://pbr.com/teams/gamblers/

Only thing I could think is that once the QB news dropped they decided to hold off on announcing this NIL deal so that it wouldn't get lost in the news cycle? Or perhaps, he just happened to be wearing a similar vest in the video teasing the QB news. If we see an Austin Gamblers announcement come out sometime soonish we will have our answer.

Or maybe there's a hidden message. Like Quinn is ready to take the bull by the horns ?

Hey TFloss,

I did see Jeff Howe on 247 reports from the 1st scrimmage and the open practice.  He and IT are in agreement on the the OL.

He has said not certain if reported here, not going to read the the stalker of Card crap, but Sanders might be the best TE and can line up in-line thus we can truly do both in lining up in 11 personnel  and 12 personnel (more this year).

That with  X, Whitt, and the ISU GT wr, all three can interchange the position. Plus a surprise to me is that Cain has improved to being in the 2nd team of wrs.

Defensively, Broughton and Murphy are the best 2 inside DL that have shown to be disruptive with Collins ( prior to injury). Coburn, Sweat, and Ojomo will get playing time, but not like in the past.

The linebackers: the GT LB maybe is small, but he hits amd tackles as pr better than the rest of the LBs. The starters most likely are Overshown and Ford, but don't count the GT LB out.

The edges: Sorrell and Ovie most likely the starters, but Finkley, possibly Overshown/D.J. Harris with Prince D. all working at the 2nd team. But Tapp and Burke have been showing flashes of what they can do.

The secondary, Probably showing GP most influence. We are doing more press coverage.  While Jamison is showing out, the backup J. Johnsonis showing to be as good  with size. Barron at the (nickel/star position) is getting a major push from Jaylon Guilbeau. Haven't  heard about anyone behind Watts.

Safeties: most likely Cook and Thompson with Blackwell and Crawford. Letting Coffey see some playing time.

Howe at 247 and a few at IT are saying the same thing.

Exactly...saw this shortly after I posted.

My guess is they bumped the release of this back 1 day to not overlap with the QB1 news and we now know that Quinn was not sending a prophetic message about him being named the starter.

Tariq Milton (ISU GT) didn't get much pub when he transferred but will be an important piece this year after losing Neyor.

Some good depth at interior DL. The fact the Coburn didn't solidify a starting role really shows that he never reached his full potential upon coming to Texas. You mentioned 6 names and I think they all can really provide some solid play in the middle. Hopefully not starting will light a fire under Coburn and also keep him fresher when he is out there.

Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey (GT LB) is a ball player - just short. Comps to Gary Johnson and Rashad Bobino flying around. Tracks and Smacks well. He and Ford should free up Overshown to come off the edge more frequently.

Edge still feels like a really shaky position group - the play there was terrible last year and we need some improvement there for sure.

Read several sites this morning.

Rivals has Texas recruiting class fourth, behind Ala., Ohio St. and N D.

DCTF has Texas with 13 recruits in Hot 100.

Still do not understand 24/7 ratings. On caculator subtracted bottom three recruits. Texas droped 2+ and ND droped 5 + points.

After all glowing defense reports should be favored in first game.?

Nice post!  Agree on all points.

Regarding the EDGE, Ovie just doesn't excite me that much.  I saw very little from him last year. He seemed to take himself out of position a lot and when he was in the right place he was easily blocked. Hopefully it's changed.  Sorrel (sp) I'm a little excited about.  He flashed some last year in limited time and he knew hownto set the edge.

I don't even understand how the 24/7 ratings work. I think you have to be an actual nerd to understand it which makes me think that I am nothing more than a wannabe nerd.
