I realized that when he hired Casey Horny.Probably safe to say that Tom thinks on a different level than you or I or most posters on any of the Texas boards.

He knew exactly what he was saying. He's putting a huge chip on these boys shoulders. Let's see how they respond.Probably safe to say that Tom thinks on a different level than you or I or most posters on any of the Texas boards.
Don't get me wrong, this class is far from impressive. You also have to realize that Herman himself has gone out and already said the transition class has the most busts and the most attrition. So I am going to give him some slack on this years class. Look at it this way, our recruiting classes have been fairly good these past few years and that success has not translated to the field. He's been on the job two months, but how long has he been recruiting and evaluating in-state Texas talent? How long has he been building relationships with Texas high school coaches? How much experience does his staff have at recruiting in the state of Texas?
Tom Herman is an exceptionally well known individual in Texas high school football circles. When he walked into Bellmont, not a single in-state recruit didn't know who Tom Herman was, or what his resume looked like. It isn't like Tom Herman walked in two months ago with no idea where to start with respect to recruiting or having to introduce himself to coaches and recruits.
I just looked at the Rivals' team rankings - Texas looks to finish behind BAYLOR!
If anything, people are being quite restrained. An out-of-state coach who most recruits had never heard of two months ago comes into Baylor and finishes with a higher ranked class than Tom Herman!? I get the fact that Baylor's class is larger and that affected the overall rankings, but don't try to pass off the 2017 recruiting of the Tom Herman staff as anything but disappointing.
This is the lowest rated UT class in at least a quarter century, the first time ever Texas failed to recruit a top 10 in-state player, it may well finish behind Baylor in the composite rankings, and the head coach - out of nowhere - doesn't stress doing a better job of recruiting in-state talent as the solution, but rather says UT needs to start recruiting like Iowa State?! Where the hell did THAT come from?
Hell, if we didn't express our disappointment, we would be acting like the rednecks from the cow college.
If people want to panic that's fine. I guess technically the sky was falling this morning since it was raining. And for the reasons you have just stated, I was less concerned with the recruiting class than with the level of buzz and momentum the program was going to have coming out of signing day. There is no buzz or excitement surrounding the program at all, as far as I can detect.Don't get me wrong, this class is far from impressive. Like I have said and also people on the board have said, winning cures all. We "supposedly" already have the talent on the roster based on all these rankings that people put such an emphasis on. Let's see what Herman can do with it. I think we have some good pieces in this class already. After a poor season and a coaching change, I am really not surprised were having a dismal year when it comes to recruiting.
Although you seem very intelligent and lot higher IQ then myself. Everyone of your post are bashing the program. From how much money they spend on athletics to now a coach that's hasn't coached a down yet. You may very well be right and him just be a dissappointment but I am speaking for myself to say I'm pumped for the season to see change. No matter how NSD went I'm excited for the program to have the chance at turning it all back around. The "hype" would have been totally non existent if Charlie was back. Like I said I'm not a smart man and do enjoy reading your stuff but c'mon let himAnd for the reasons you have just stated, I was less concerned with the recruiting class than with the level of buzz and momentum the program was going to have coming out of signing day. Having been given "total control" of the program, at some point Herman is going to have to start delivering something that gets the fans engaged. I'm on record as being less than impressed with Herman's "total control" of the program so far (admittedly, largely for his hiring of Casey Horny).
The worst case scenario I can think of at the moment is that Herman continues to fail to create any sense of energy associated with the program, then starts with the whole "control freak" persona he has been accused of at times, and he starts blaming the fans for not flocking to the stadium.
Herman was supposed to be an impressive hire. He has been given everything he has asked for so far. His staff unquestionably had some unimpressive individuals (one who has no business being associated with college athletics, let alone allowed on the UT campus). His recruiting has been less than impressive. For all the excuses, it has to be admitted that eventually Herman is going to have to start doing things that impress the fans. Maybe the Spring Game will have a sense of new energy. Maybe something will happen between now and September to give the program a sense of new energy.
But we have to admit, there is no new energy associated with the program coming out of NSD. The overwhelming feeling coming of of NSD is "Thank God Charlie Strong could recruit." And that isn't what Tom Herman is being paid, or being given "total control," to deliver.
Lulz.....I just put in a CB to LSU for Chaisson.
Damn straightMost Texas fans would much rather have a not so great '17 class if it means winning this season
