I feel like getting Pouncey later will make me feel a whole better, not that I'm really too down. Really thought we had Chaisson, so that is where my disappointment is coming from. Didn't really have a strong feeling on Zabie, though it seemed likely.

Class is as to be expected with the situation Herman inherited, just could have been a little better.
Agreed. Is the Chaisson situation officially dead yet though?

I wasn't worried about what the signing class looked like as much as I was hoping the program would come out of NSD with some level of buzz and excitement. I'm not sensing any.

It seems a lot more "When does the Tom Herman era start" than "Tom Herman is clearly in control of the program."

The positives coming out of NSD feel pretty much "Thank God Charlie Strong was a good recruiter."

At some point, Tom Herman is going to have to start delivering something that amps up the energy level and gets that fans engaged. He supposedly has "total control" of the program. That hasn't really produced anything substantive and has generated at least one big question mark as to how he is exercising that level of control. So far, I give the Tom Herman a C-.

On to the Spring Game to see what Herman's direction for the program will be.

Even though Herman came in late I was expecting more -- we have got to win 9-10 games next year or this type of recruiting year will repeat itself!

Charlie took over a program that was on a downward trajectory. Charlie's 3 years on the field saw that program bottom out. Enter Herman, almost a decade out of relevance, recruiting kids to come to a 5-win school in a conference that's the butt of even AAC conference jokes.

This class if a perfect example of a transition coach coming into a situation that, if we're being real with ourselves, needs to be fixed on the field before on the recruiting trail. That's when I start judging him. Not this class.

That's what I'm saying, how are you going to judge Herman based on a transition class with only 2 months to recruit.

WHAT!?

First he drags the program into the Baylor mess and now he publicly equates the UT Austin program to that of Iowa State.

Tom, just shut up, coach spring practice, and pray to God there are no discipline problems over the next few months.

The head coach at UT should never claim any aspect of the UT program is no better than Iowa State. Start believing you are like Iowa State and you become an Iowa State level program.

Charlie Strong had no problem recruiting at UT and even with the record UT had under Strong, he had a number of really solid players very interested in committing to UT. Herman lost recruiting battles to Utah, LSU, UCLA. His big recruiting day surprise was a two star JUCO.

One has to wonder what the hell Herman is thinking at times. If Herman is ever the smartest person in the room, then that isn't saying much about the other people he is standing around.

Poster on another site said Chaisson was on snap chat wearing orange. Gonna' troll us to the last second.

Reading all this mass panic after Herman has been on the job for a few months.  Starting to sound like the Aggie board...smh
He's been on the job two months, but how long has he been recruiting and evaluating in-state Texas talent? How long has he been building relationships with Texas high school coaches? How much experience does his staff have at recruiting in the state of Texas?

Tom Herman is an exceptionally well known individual in Texas high school football circles. When he walked into Bellmont, not a single in-state recruit didn't know who Tom Herman was, or what his resume looked like. It isn't like Tom Herman walked in two months ago with no idea where to start with respect to recruiting or having to introduce himself to coaches and recruits.

I just looked at the Rivals' team rankings - Texas looks to finish behind BAYLOR!

If anything, people are being quite restrained. An out-of-state coach who most recruits had never heard of two months ago comes into Baylor and finishes with a higher ranked class than Tom Herman!? I get the fact that Baylor's class is larger and that affected the overall rankings, but don't try to pass off the 2017 recruiting of the Tom Herman staff as anything but disappointing.

This is the lowest rated UT class in at least a quarter century, the first time ever Texas failed to recruit a top 10 in-state player, it may well finish behind Baylor in the composite rankings, and the head coach - out of nowhere - doesn't stress doing a better job of recruiting in-state talent as the solution, but rather says UT needs to start recruiting like Iowa State?! Where the hell did THAT come from?

Hell, if we didn't express our disappointment, we would be acting like the rednecks from the cow college.

Probably safe to say that Tom thinks on a different level than you or I or most posters on any of the Texas boards.
