Well, at least all of these after ran 4th string QBs have given us something to talk about this evening. After watching a super athletic Heard demolish opponents on TV in HS playoff games I feel he will excell in an offense designed for his talents. Need a decent OL to keep him upright and healthy, and need to avoid the unnecessary hits a running QB might take (see Ash). Looking forward to the spring practice reports and

scrimmage for updates on Heard and Vinklarek....had to add him in for a laugh.

no...his possibly transfer here doesn't excite me. the qb everybody loves to hate here has done more than brewer. what else needs to be said?

and, no, i wouldn't have called street to peschel. only one guy in the world would have had the church-bells to do that. fortunately he was on the UT sideline that day.

DKR called "Street to Peschel". Arguably the greatest successful call in the history of UT Football. Because of what it led to.

DKR put Texas Football on the map, on the forefront, more than the 1963 NC did. "Street to Peschel" was one of the gutsiest

calls in the history of college football, especially considering what was at stake on that day. #1 vs. #2, everything on the line.

Gotta hand it to DKR. He knew when to roll the dice. Watched that game with Daddy and others. He was yelling so loud after that completion that I'm certain they heard it in Arkansas. When he celebrated a game like that, it was almost like a taunt to the other team. My mom always said he was a great winner. It was fun.

the play call from 4th-3 from their own 43 with under 5 minutes to go down 14-8 was the ballsiest call of all-time. any sport. any era.

the game was on the line. failure means the 30 game winning streak never happens. a second NC never happens. an epic cotton bowl matchup vs ND never happens. a shared NC in '70 likely never happens since we don't start out ranked as high and OSU went undefeated.

royal called a deep ball from a 49% passer to a tight-end who caught 9 balls all season. nobody does that. nobody.

Not piling on anybody, just my attempt at a late night joke; agreed with you after the bowl game that Vinklarek, even Holtz, should have received some snaps after the atrocious QB play we all witnessed. Nobody mentioning Vinklarek lately so I thought I would throw his name out there. I still think the Hubenak kid from Georgetown HS would be a decent JC addition, but I happen to work in Georgetown so I might be a little biased! Everyone, including coaches, used to say James Brown was a crappy practice QB but we all saw what he brought to the game. You never know if a kid is a player until you test him on game action. Vinklarek received a scholly, must have a skill set that could have been tried last season if Heard was not going to burn a RS.

2014 is over. It's 2015. Heard starts. Swoopes is a decent back up if needed now that the OL has improved. Locksley RS and Merrick and the Jose guy provide much needed 'competition' according to msg board dorks. No room for Brewer.

The poster cost about $1.50, and I spent quite a bit to have it framed the way I wanted, but it was worth it. It represents that National Championship.

The poster has quite a history and had to have a little restoration done, but they did do a very good job. I have had many people ask where I purchased a photo that size. It's amazing what finish, suede, good wood, non-glare glass, and a nice budget can do for a poster!

Smart? I don't know. Enjoyable? Definitely.

I have an 8x10 photo of the tower lit up #1 that Earl autographed for me at a UT baseball game in the late 80's. Earl was sitting at a table doing a radio interview, headphones and all, and a few of these pictures were sitting on the table in front of him. My buddy and I grabbed the last 2 pics, handed them to Earl, and he signed them while speaking to the radio hosts. I'm assuming the photo is from around the time of your 1970 poster. It has a guy standing on the Littlefield fountain in the picture wearing short shorts, a trucker hat, and sweet stripped tube socks pulled up to his knees. Awesome momento for being in the right place at the right time.

The one that I have was taken at night. It also has Littlefield fountain in the pic. It is a Big poster. I also have one of the posters taken after the 2005 National Championship. It's one of the 8x10's taken and autographed and sold at the Coop by Lam Jones Nice picture.

I could decorate a house, or at least part of a house, in a very tasteful burnt orange. Love that color!

Rarely do I disagree with you and SFLG, but in this case I do. When evaluating linebackers, people look for a certain level of instinctive play and speed, without it the ceiling is limited. While I hope that Swoopes can improve as a QB, he has been at Texas for two years, and he had 1st team practice reps and coaching for the majority of 2014. He also played every down as the starting qb for all but one game. There should have been some improvement in decision making, even with our decimated offensive line. The coaches knew and he knew he had a matter of moments to make a decision, a limited decision. He, all too often, simply became overwhelmed. I just don't see the possibilities.

It's possible that he doesn't have the vision. It's possible that he has what I like to call an engineer's thought process-studied and thoughtful, deliberate, but useless on a football field. Compare that to that of other professions, those where one must make critical decisions quickly and decisively.

I could be wrong, but I don't think so. Strong will give him a chance to compete, but of greater import, does Strong think he can improve enough. I doubt this is completely in Watson's wheelhouse any longer. There is too much riding on it.
