and you have a signed contract for the next Texas HC. Assuming the new guy is done with his bowl game by the weekend (no inside knowledge; this is purely for this scenario) and can be announced at any time, when would you announce?

A. Immediately so he can begin assembling staff and get going with recruiting

or

B. Sunday evening / Monday morning to maximize exposure.

I would pick B. As has been discussed here before, if this news is released the night before / day of the NC game, there is no way it would not be discussed non stop. But something I just thought about tonight (and very well could've been discussed already) is NFL playoffs. If an announcement is made Friday or Saturday, it would be all over ESPN but as soon as the playoff games get rolling they would take away some of the spotlight. NFL still has a pretty big imprint.

Now, it's entirely possible that Patterson and Co. could care less about how long this dominates the news and has front page, but I'm guessing they'd like to time this for the maximum hype and coverage for all recruits to see.

Of course if it's one of Mahlzahn or Fisher than this post makes zero sense but I'm guessing we'd all be too happy to care anyway!

Thoughts?

My thoughts are we've had enough exposure, who cares if the playoffs get bigger headlines, screw the spotlight, let next season speak for itself. The curtain needs to close on this circus.

I don't think it matters when it's announced. It will dominate headlines for several days. If announced a day or so before the MNC, no way they don't talk about that throughout the game, especially since Saban is supposed to be a commentator that night. Auburn will be glad to know Saban is gone, so there's a connection there. Also, there's all this stuff that Saban has accomplished at Bama - and now turns the page to Texas and what that holds for him - I can see the story now at the half.

^^That's a big IF he comes though. Certainly doesn't look like he is for me at the moment. The new coach will create a lot of excitement. How much will be determined by who it is. I can't wait to see

Steve will make it RIGHT @ UT, I promise you that!!!

If it's Saban, then announcing it on the 6th would be earth shattering news in the college football world. If it's anyone else, then announce it as soon as possible because someone like Strong isn't going to capture the interest of anyone except for hardcore college football fans.

I don't know about you but this has become "enough already" announce the coach asap. I know my wife would be happy.

And my husband... and the novel I'm supposed to be writing... and my laundry.
