As an outsider, let me just say that Texas is in a very good position. With Saban reportedly out of the picture, you could have your pick of a number of good candidates. Or, you could suffer through another 8-4 year (is it really that painful?) with Mack. You would essentially have the same group of candidates plus maybe a few others (Chip Kelly, etc.).

The players looked disengaged.

Dodds and Patterson basically gave speeches to each other.

Patterson's words were carefully parsed.

If you go by body language/facial expressions, it did not look like anyone one was claiming victory.

There was not much discussion of the future except for the bowl game.

Mack and Sally were not exactly joyous.

Twitter claims they were the last 2 in the room.

Add it all up and it reads like Mack's last banquet here.

I would be curious to hear from others who have watched this too if they saw the same things I did, or whether anyone came away with a different impression.

It's only guesswork, but I am curious to see what I may have missed from that show.

I also suspect Mack got one more chip to play, perhaps saving his job until after the bowl game, lose and it is a for sure resignation. It already looks like he went back on his word ie resign if no 10 win season, win big 12 etc.

The guy is a snake and he needs to go

It appears Saban is gone, which is what Mack wanted and probably Powers. I still think there is a good chance that Mack is gone in 3 wks or sooner. If so, there will be a bunch of interesting coaching options, both from the NFL and the college ranks.

It's hard to do but maybe we all just need some patience and faith that it will work out.

I was not able to watch it, but from reading/hearing what others saw/witnessed... it seems like Powers & UT care more about making sure Mack has the exit they think he deserves rather than the future of the program, whether right, wrong or indifferent, prefaced by the notion that Saban is definitely not coming... which I still think is an option.

We would not go 8-4 next season with Mack as HC. He would need more than one season to pass DKR on the win list. Frankly, I'm a bit offended by his ego and desire to pass DKR. DKR got his win total by the age of 52 and when regular seasons consisted of 10-11 games and a bowl. Mack's beating his chest when he plays a 13 game season. This is all sickening and I see no way the administration allows him to remain employed if he truly threatened to go to the press regarding how the Athletic Dept and BMDs/Regents went behind his back to get Saban.

He is a spoiled brat, petulent, little man only concerned with his ego and controlling the message. Any additional funds to buy him out need to be off the table and he absolutely should not be permitted to slide into the role DKR held previously. Nor should he be permitted to pass DKR on the all time wins list at Texas. DKR is a true legend. Mack is a little b!*ch.

My SEC buddies are beside themselves - they really wanted Saban out. Now my FSU buddy is trying to foist Gus at me while my Auburn buddy is pumping Jimbo for Texas. We really have been a source of entertainment to the country - and not necessarily in a good way.

No decent coach is going to want to come in under an AD who is hated and despised. Any slight setback in the program and the hate will be raining down on the coach as well as the AD. Espn saying mack refuting he's fighting for job and says slow down. Said he would make best decision for his future. There is just no logical scenario where I can picture mack back next year. I just can't buy he would want to go through that. Even at the banquet he and Sally looked less than happy. The vitriol towards mack if he came back would be unlike anything seen at Texas. He would face a burning fire week after week and he first loss would start all this over again but times 10 of this year. This needs to end soon. Reading this morning BMD are pissed and powers is going to face a hell storm if he's gone back on certain things.

Have not read much this morning... but has Saban signed? Could this be a controlled leak from Camp Saban to tighten the screws. What if Saban is pissed right now because he told someone he "liked" the offer from Bama and they ran to ESPN with it so everyone would think "Saban to Texas" was officially dead.
