Why not Pete Carroll?

I found it interesting that Jim Harbaugh and Chip Kelly have been brought up several times as the coaching candidate. And I wonder, if we are going after Harbaugh and Kelly, why has Pete Carroll been brought up more often?

Before Saban won it at Alabama, Carroll was arguably the best college coach around. Unlike Harbaugh and Kelly, Carroll actually has won it in the college ranks, twice!

Since our primary target before was Saban, I think we can throw the argument that we do not want a dirty coach out of the window.

Some other thoughts on Carroll:

1. He's media savvy - If there is one school that's similar to the media attention that Texas gets, it's USC, and Carroll has been known to be very savvy dealing with the media. He would do great on LHN.

2. He fits everything that Steve Patterson spelled out of what he's looking for in a coach (big name splash hire, extensive college experience, can recruit).

Also just consider this, Pete Carroll has already done it once, going from Pros to College. The same reasons that he did it the first time is still around. There is no reason to not believe that he would do it for the second time, especially when a school like Texas comes calling.

Pete has a pretty sweet gig with the Seahawks. He has a great young QB, a great defense and a rabid fan base. The team will only be better when they get their top 2 receivers back from injury (Rice and Harvin). Not sure what he makes in Seattle, but I'm sure he is well paid.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to have him. I just think it'll be a tough sell.

"Not long before an NCAA report on violations at USC under Carroll was released, on January 10, 2010, Carroll told his players that he would resign his position with the Trojans and become the new head coach of the Seattle Seahawks. According to the Los Angeles Times, Carroll came to agreement with the Seahawks on a 5-year $33 million contract to become head coach"...

True, Texas does have media coverage and attention, power, and prestige very similar to USC. That's the exact reason someone with NCAA violations such as Pete Carroll should never be considered to replace Mack Brown. Starting out with a microscope watching a coach who left College due to NCAA violations is not the best way for The University to begin a new head coaching era.

Carroll would be batsh*t crazy to leave the situation he's built in Seattle for any other job. They are the best team in the league and are poised to win a Super Bowl this year despite losing their best WR threat before the season even started. Their defense is flat out nasty and he has one of the top young QBs in the game.

My reason for not Pete Carroll: a few years back my sister worked in the football stadium and she basically was a tour guide for recruits on gameday, so she got free 50 yard line seats with recruits every game. She was working the pro day at UT and was checking in coaches, she was busy looking for paper and she asked his name without even looking who it was, immediately he said "don't you know who I am?" And since then I haven't liked the guy lol

Valid points. There are many people in LA, however, still believe that Pete was not directly involved, or even had any knowledge of what was going on with Reggie Bush and his family. Take it for what it's worth and I used to know someone who worked at USC's AD and he seemed to believe that Carroll was innocent.

But I get it, there are reasons against why Texas would not want Carroll.

Just another reference point, Pete Carroll reportedly has a 5-year contract with the Seahawks at $32.5M, so he makes roughly $6.5M a year right now.

Whether he knew or not, he was responsible for knowing, so he can choose between being knowingly corrupt or clueless and negligent. Either way, he shouldn't even be considered.

I like Pete
He has what appears to be a SB quality winner in Seattle.

1 You really think he is going to leave that?

2 You willing to wait until early Feb for him to come?

I think there is a better chance of Vince Young getting that last year of eligibility than seeing Pete Carroll at Texas.

Pete Carroll is not leaving hawks for UT. Level 1. Ha, just kidding, but yeah, I don't see it happening.

UT would be the only job he left for, that wouldn't upset me though, of course.

He is sitting too fat and happy right now in Seattle. Off the top of my head I can't think of any, but how many coaches have championship rings at both the college and pro level as a head coach? If he plays his cards right, he may very well do just that.
