I found it interesting that Jim Harbaugh and Chip Kelly have been brought up several times as the coaching candidate. And I wonder, if we are going after Harbaugh and Kelly, why has Pete Carroll been brought up more often?
Before Saban won it at Alabama, Carroll was arguably the best college coach around. Unlike Harbaugh and Kelly, Carroll actually has won it in the college ranks, twice!
Since our primary target before was Saban, I think we can throw the argument that we do not want a dirty coach out of the window.
Some other thoughts on Carroll:
1. He's media savvy - If there is one school that's similar to the media attention that Texas gets, it's USC, and Carroll has been known to be very savvy dealing with the media. He would do great on LHN.
2. He fits everything that Steve Patterson spelled out of what he's looking for in a coach (big name splash hire, extensive college experience, can recruit).
Also just consider this, Pete Carroll has already done it once, going from Pros to College. The same reasons that he did it the first time is still around. There is no reason to not believe that he would do it for the second time, especially when a school like Texas comes calling.
