Why are we burning Swoopes' RS?????

It wasn't fair to Swoopes, but Mack is thinking only about himself at this point. Truth be told we need some QB experience to prepare for next year since McCoy is gone (thank GOD) and Ash will unlikely play again. Leaves us with Swoopes, Overstreet and incoming Jerrod Heard.

I would much rather have seen Overstreet in than Swoopes last night only because Swoopes' redshirt was compromised, but getting reps to guys other than Case McCoy is a good thing.

It looks like ash is done for thr season & maybe for good so I don't have a problem with Swoopes playing! Texas not having a legit ready to play backup since mock in 04 & chiles in 07 has been a disgrace! Now that the redshirt has been burned Swoopes better play a lot from here on out to get that experience to maybe be the starter next season depending on Ash's health!

I am a little late to the party here bc I just finished waching the game, but I was irate about the move also. If that proves to be the only time we use him all year that is a disservice to tyrone.

I think this speaks to where we are at this year with ash. Ok, so now that we have burned the shirt can we please get overstreet some reps at wr/wr?

8i thimk the move was right. Should have been done in the kst game though. Ash is don case is a senior and heard is coming in. This helps give us a better backup, it will help swoopes next year, and gives us some needed separation between him and heard. Swoopes will see more time the next two games now that the shirt is done. I just wish it was done earlier. Hell make swoopes the starter for ku

Totally against playing Swoopes last night as I feel his insertion into a game at this point is ridiculous. What he did last night in no way prepares him for anything and even if he plays an entire quarter vs. Kansas late, it is simply not worth burning his shirt or prepares him to start or win a game if something happens to Case. I don't know what the ceiling is for Tyrone long term, but burning his shirt is unfair to him whether he finishes his career at Texas or somewhere else.

I was watching the game with a former TCU linebacker and current commissioner of a youth football league. I said the same things when Swoopes went in that we were burning his shirt.

My buddy looked at the clock and said no, it wasn't a full quarter of action, so it wouldn't burn it yet.

(Time was 4:45 left in the 4th).

My buddy is pretty in tune with the NCAA rules and all the new heads-up tackling techniques, etc, so I'll take his word for it that the Swoopes' redshirt is not totally burned yet.

This is interesting. We need to get confirmation on this one.

the overreaction to this is startling. yes, if these are the only snaps swoopes take this year it was dumb. does anybody believe that is likely at this point? I don't, so his RS would have been lost eventually. is it really more complicated than that?

Ash's prognosis must be bad. We certainly need a backup with game snaps. Swoops has been taking practice snaps at QB while Overstreet has not. I'm not saying I agree with the decision but past decisions have put us in the position.

Looked like even in "trash time" Swoops was not confident in running things. We had to take a timeout because the play lock was running out. But if Swoops is the future (Ash career over?) he could be the starter next year while Heard takes a red shirt.

Santa and I discussed this a while back but if I am in Mack's position, and Major's more importantly, I use every weapon I have in my arsenal. Major is still trying to figure out where he will be next year and if Case goes down or wets the bed we have to have someone to turn to who has had some game reps.

Personally I think they should have gotten him in against OUsucks but I guess they didn't want to chance any kind of a miracle comeback. Now I hope he gets a lot of game reps over the next two weeks.

Lobo, Frankly, it sends a message that Ash will be likely out for the remainder of the season & the

coaches want to get Swoopes some game action...I am a former Horn from eons ago & DKR would

think this a wise move...just sounds to me like you have not thought this through for the remainder of

the season for the good of the team...I "get it" you hate Mack & that is fine, BUT, the players want the

coaches to do ALL they can to help them achieve the team goal of winning the conf...I would imagine

Swoopes has been wanting to get action even before now...

My ONLY preference would have been getting him in earlier for more reps...bet he sees the field before

end of 3rd Q against the Jayhawks unless the game is still in doubt...

Just another side of the coin to consider, whether you agree or not is kinda irrelevant to the guys who

want to win-out...

Everyone needs to chill out. If Ash is out for the season it is a good decision. Are you thinking we can compete for a Big 12 Championship with no backup? This win changes this season fairly dramatically, and it is clear we need a real backup QB that is not a converted RB and has gotten some game reps.
I agree, if Swoopes does work out, i can guarantee you, he would not hang around for his full 4 years. With Ash done, if we are to have a chance, Mack needs to get him some work in these next two opponents. I have no problem going ALL IN.

Well said ... Hookem

We need to have a back up QB ready just in case. So Swoopes needs to be ready. How would everyone react if Case got hurt and we did not have anyone ready. We can't have it both ways.
The problem with that is coming in for 5 plays and handing it off and a couple of runs didnt get him ready. He should have played the whole 4th Q. Maybe a series in the 3rd. Maybe earlier in the year.

Mack cant have it both way, you cant waste his year to turn around and hand the ball off.

I agree. My feeling until they come out and say it, is that Ash is done. The rest of the schedule for Texas has some very weak run defenses that maybe the coaching staff thinks we can exploit with a more mobile QB threat. I think we will see more Swoopes during the meat of our coming games (a little more QB rotation). Our only chance at possibly upsetting Baylor is to keep the ball away from them with long sustained drives on the ground and keep the clock rolling (much like K-state did to them). I also feel that Swoopes has had a decision in this as well. this is all just my opinion.

I think since they made the decision, they need to start running packages for him when there is pressure to perform. I agree that waiting this late in a game is useless.

On the other hand someone has to be ready next week and during the bowl practices I would just further intensify the packages.
