When will Mack Brown step down?

The issue here is the distraction an announcement like this causes for the team. Mack cares about these kids, despite our personal feelings towards him, and he won't want to be a distraction. I could see if happening after Tech/ before Baylor but most likely after Baylor.

If it is before Baylor I can hear him now, " I told the kids that the bowl game will be my last game. What bowl that is, is up to them."

I think you nailed it right there thigg. That's the way I see things possibly going down.

I think the biggest question is whether or not Saban is really the guy. If he is going to be the guy Mack needs to wait as long as possible to announce so we don't go without a head coach for a period of time.

If Saban is not an option the sooner the better. Getting the job out there as officially open will be necessary considering there's the USC job and possibly others like Florida that could come open. And then the jobs that come open from those being filled (like A&M). We can't wait too long and then see guys that we might be interested in going elsewhere.

very good point.

1 reason i see that it could happen before Dec 1st is that is when Patterson will take over but if Saban is playing for title, then we need to wait until banquet. We cant wait much after that unless Saban says wait till after the MNC game.

After Baylor, and likely at the Banquet.
IMO, announcing his retirement at the banquet would be the best option if Texas wants to keep the majority of their recruits. Of course, any new coach will have the option to decide the recruits he keeps. If Saban is the new HC, look for several current players and a few recruits lose their scholarship/offer.

I dont want to keep many of the recruits. I want Saban or Briles(hope i dont have to go further than this) to bring a few of their guys. Yes i want Heard and a few others, few others! I dont trust this staffs evaluations at all.

If Mack resigns before Tech, HookemDTX said he would run naked down 6th street with a rose between his teeth. We can all get behind that, can't we?
Please don't post any photos or videos if this indeed comes to fruition

I wont go that far, but I will say there are a couple of head scratchers out there.
Wont name everyone but ill state the 5 players i really do like in this class. This does not mean i want all others to sign with another school.

J. Heard.

D. Robinson

O. Alaka

C. Hampton

E. Porter

There are definitely some head scratchers but then again the better ones dont want to come and who can blame them.

I think it needs to be before banquet. I think recruiting/keeping commitments would be horrible if at banquet weekend.

My two cents.

This soap opera has the chance to get worse before it gets better. The Horns are not a lock to beat Tech and there is no way in the world they beat Baylor. That being said, a 7-5 finish, resulting in possibly a trip to New York or San Diego, means an ugly ending to 2013. Should Texas bottom out, and I believe they will, Mack would most likely tender his retirement letter Sunday following the Baylor game. The BMDs will have already made their short list and begin the process of hiring a new coach. Mack would coach the bowl game and retire to a position within the athletic department. He will give his full support to helping make the transition as smooth as possible. Remember he has a legacy to protect and preserve. I just can't imagine Saban would leave T-Town, but I sure would hope he'd change address. No way of knowing a valid short list at this point, but rest assured one is already in place. I could see Jimbo Fisher's name emerge and Jim Mora, Jr. I do think it will be someone with head coaching experience. My prospective replacement would fall between early 40s to early 50s with previous HC duties and success at previous post. That's is unless it's Saban, then all bets are off.
