Wednesday press conference recap

Warning:  The first paragraph is a bit off-topic.

While I regret the fact that any Longhorn players were removed from the team, they would have been a distraction to their teammates.  The Longhorns have been forced to deal with more than their share of distractions over the last two to three years.

Matt, good job.  Your recap brought out some great points that I had not thought about.  Your take on the young wide receivers is spot on, imo.  Please keep up the good work.

Hook 'em!

With regards to wide receivers, Texas don't recruit players who do not have physical tools.  Now, it is time to see who wants to step up and play.

A full day of media availability today: We'll hear Coach Strong around 11:30 and then from each assistant coach. UT is also going to make a few players available afterward.

Good stuff coming your way at lunchtime. Be sure to tune in to the live update thread.

Apparently CS is calling Hassan Ridgeway "The Green Mile."

Charlie Strong Likes The Longhorns' Defensive Line Depth24 hours ago
AUSTIN, Texas – There's one area where Texas head coach Charlie Strong isn't worried about depth. The Texas defensive line is emerging as the deepest and most talented position group on the roster.

“We've got good depth there,†Strong said on Wednesday.

Strong, as he's done since the spring, signaled his starting defensive line – senior endCedric Reed, senior tackle Desmond Jackson, junior tackle Malcom Brown and the winner of the battle at the other end spot between junior Shiro Davis and sophomore Caleb Bluiett– as real strength. He then began to talk about the second group, which includes sophomore tackle Hassan Ridgeway.

“The Green Mileâ€, as Strong calls him, has already made an impression on the head coach.

“He's a really strong guy and powerful,†Strong said. “He's got a powerful pass rush. He can take guys once he gets locked on and he can just throw them out of the way.â€

Strong said depending on the opponent the Longhorns could use a lot of linemen in order to keep fresh bodies on the field. In addition to the players mentioned sophomore defensive end Bryce Cottrell, sophomore tackle Alex Norman and true freshmen Poona Ford (tackle) and Derick Roberson (end) figure to be able to give Texas more quality depth along the line of scrimmage.
