UT Pan Am at Texas

Wut..we won?!?

Boba for Joeywa!
No Boba. That crap is awful.
Can I have it instead?! :D

I love Boba! (only if it's Baby Tap though). The local Boba Tea place here in Houston is my go to study spot.

Anyway, good game by my Broncs. We always seem to play UT close, just never can get over that hump. Couple of years ago when I was in school, we (Broncs) lost 4-3 and I think 2 of the 4 UT runs, including the walk off, were on wild pitches or bases loaded HBP. Although we did end up winning a series against A&M, which felt SO much better ;)

Mid week games always interesting this time of year as teams trying to develop pitching depth and lesser teams geared up to play ranked opponents.  #6 Houston fell to Texas State 6-7, #7 TCU held off Texas Southern 1-0 & #13 Texas Tech needed 3 in the bottom of the 9th to beat Sacramento State 4-3.

I will say this UTPA made an egregious mistake at the end of the game. We had a guy on 1st and 3rd. Why wouldn't you walk Boswell to create the force out? Not to mention in that situation I would have much rather faced a true Freshman like Cantu. Specifically on that night, Boswell already had 2 hits and a clutch RBI. Cantu didn't have a hit on the night. They should have walked Boswell and faced Cantu.

I agree bomb. I just went back and reread the situation, 2 outs with the winning run on third and a freshman on deck I absolutely walk Boswell. The only way I don't is of I'm up 1 because I don't want to put the go ahead run in scoring position. Tied I make the rook beat me.

One thing to consider on the walk the bases loaded scenario is that maybe they were worried their pitcher would walk the winning run in. He walked the lead off guy and according to Matts PBP he bounced 3 other pitches. Confidence on the kid throwing strikes couldn't have been too high

True. I would have still walked Boswell.

Great thought STP. I wouldn't have done it with an upper classman on deck, just with a freshman. My thought is no matter how good Cantu is he's still a freshman who is 0 for the night, he might be pissing down his leg over anxious and will get himself out expanding his strike zone. I'm not so much worried about the force anywhere aspect as I am I want the freshman to beat me rather than an upper classman that had been there before.

Uh, we won the game because I was wearing my lucky hat in rally hat fashion. If it was up to that doosh street, I wouldn't have been able to win the game for us because he thinks I should burn it.

Suck it, street.

You are all welcome. Except you, street.

Add to that that UTPA may have been more comfortable with Boswell's LH bat than Cantu's RH. I haven't looked up Martinez's numbers against righties, but I'm sure they played a factor in the dugout.

Boswell, Boswell, boswell

Blah, blah , blah

It was the hat. My hat. Specifically, my lucky hat. The one street refuses to recognize for its coolness and longhorn karma properties.

Carry on if you must. Here's a "Whatever" in advance.

Ok slim you are right it was the hat. The one time I met you at Trace's baseball tailgate you had the hat on. I thought it was perfectly acceptable and head great character.

I can't find any statistics that show batting averages vs lefties and righties.

You could be right, but in most situations righty vs righty would be the better match up. Maybe Martinez is better against lefties, but it would be against the norm. I would be interested to see what Martinzez's numbers are against righties and lefties. IMO this argument justifies walking Boswell, and getting to the righty vs righty match up.

oooh, this brings up all sorts of interesting karma angles.  ive seen Longhorn magic work in many ways.  Key base hit, walk, hit batter, wild pitch, balk.  you guys are over thinking this and second guessing a coaches decision.  remember, this coach was not in control any more.  karma was in control.

remember, if you intentionally walk the bases loaded to get to a righty righty matchup, the Longhorn karma gods do not like that and make you pay.  most likely a walk, but an inside pitch that nicks cantu is also a strong possibility. or even the old balk play.

with a base open, the karma gods recognized that a hit by boswell was required.  with the bases full, there is a whole new can of options for them to utilize (thru my hat of course--think of it sort of like a karmic wifi unit) so all this discussion about "strategy" is moot.

Don't get all excited Slim, he's just sucking up. Or else he is just being polite to his elders.

Either way, it's still a douchy lid. May as well sport a flat bill.
I was kind of sucking up,I figured since he was a suite person now, he might let me use his tickets when I come to town
