To meet with these guys!

That staff needs to be wiped. I like Searles but we can upgrade. I love Giles but he flat does not recruit well enough to keep his job. I have no idea why we are rewarding Chambers for being the loyal soldier; he has a powerful rabbi somewhere. It's time for Akina. Wyatt and Porter are the only two who should be considered IMO.

Hearing akina has a good shot at being retained.
I think that's a mistake. Not a big mistake, but a small one. Maybe you agree to a couple of more years to cement the transition but I'd like to see some new blood. His energy level is great, but he stopped listening to Mack after the first couple of losses (almost to the point of disrespect) so he'll have to recalibrate his attitude as that won't fly with Strong.

Personally doubt he's retained.

I'd prefer a complete change, but I wouldn't be opposed to Searles getting another shot.

If I remember correctly, he came in with a fiery demeanor that Mack tried to temper. No cussing etc.

I don't think profanity is necessary to motivate kids/players, but it did take some of Searles personality away.

I thought our O-line finally showed improvement this year. Not a lot. But definitely better.

I always listened when my coach launched a profanity laden attack. And I sure didn't want to disappoint him after said attack.

Agreed. I'm not a big fan of keeping most of the old staff. I think new blood is needed through out. Seems right now it's going to be a mixture of old Texas and Louisville staff.

Wouldn't Bedford coach DB'sif he's DC
At Louisville, Vance was DC only and not a position coach as well. They had a DL coach for both tackles and ends, a LB coach and a DB coach.

You can have 9 on field assistant coaches. Personally I would like to see

DC

DB

LB

DL

OC/QB

RB

WR/TE

OL

ST

I agree. Actually the O Line has made slow but steady progress with Searles. Imagine how much better they will be with good S&C.

Also Coach Strong need some connections to the Texas HS coaches, that will be very important in recruiting these next few yrs. some of the staff may indeed stay, but the big change has occurred at the HC position, that was the problem.

Isn't Searles also responsible for East Texas? He seems to be boss in that region right now. I can understand if Strong gets Wickline, they are boys, but it's not like Searles hasn't earned his job.

Agreed, and yes, Searles is the lead East Texas recruiter. He's worth keeping IMO so we can find out what a true Searels oline is like. His recruits are top notch, without a doubt.

Personally I think it is time for a change at DB coach.

Wyatt and Giles are the only two who should be under consideration to stay. Any more than that and I will be disappointed. Why hire a new HC and not clean house.

Nominate Akina as a dedicated ST coach. I believe he was the guy behind our dominant return teams.

I think the single most important hire right now is the OC. If he is truly hands off with the offense and the fact that he is a defensive guy, this is extremely important. We all know that even with a good to great defense, the offenses in this league are going to score some. We really need someone that can put the pressure on the opposing teams as well. If he hires well here, he will put to rest my only major concern I had/have with him.
I agree with this 100%.

Also...I think Porter, and Giles need and should be retained.

Although Applewhite is a great recruiter I don't see his style meshing at all with what I've heard from Coach Strong. Will always be loved for what he did on the field and maybe down the road he can come back. Time is not right IMO

All I ask for is a legitimate special teams coach. My god, I got more frustrated with our special teams than anything else. Is it really that difficult to cover a kickoff? Is it really that difficult to catch a punt so we don't start inside our ten every single possession? Is it really that difficult to not run into the punter, and keep drives alive?
