Update of Mack Browns Announcement & Other Musings

Here is what I'm being told.

As I said, Mack is asking for a lot of $ to exit. More than has been contractually agreed upon. Mack has us between a rock and a hard place because he knows he will not be fired. On the Texas side, we just want this thing done but, it is going to cost us.

The releasing of Macks resignation by ESPN has assisted us by making it national news. This prevents Mack Brown from drawing the timeline out any further. Now Mack has to start telling people about his plans to retire, could the releasing of this news by ESPN be premeditated by the Power Brokers to put an end to Mack drawing this out further than Thursday? I would not doubt it.

As I said earlier, as early as Wednesday, no later than Thursday. It is now looking like Thursday.

The other side of this exit contract is the new position Mack is going to transition to. As we have heard from our good friends at Inside Texas, Mack is looking for a similar position that DKR held as assistant to the President. Mack will bring in 1 mill a year in this position.

Here is the PROBLEM. One of the Main stipulations the Saban camp had concerning accepting the HC job at Texas, was Mack cannot be in a position to meddle. As you can see, Mack is positioning himself to do just that. The Saban camp does want that cloud of a tattle tail Mack Brown in the President's ear while they are trying to resurrect the program. The Saban camp is acutely aware that Nick runs a program far different program than Mack does.

I hope this does not end up costing us Saban?

Are you back tracking on your prediction or r u still saying SABAN is a DONE DEAL ????????

I believe that is exactly what it is going to do. Cost us Saban, and that's Mack's goal, IMO

I may have to retract my "Thanks for all you did, Mack" in the tribute thread, if this is what happens.

I cannot believe it is coming to this

Thanks for the info, McP. Always appreciated

Mack is going to F this up. I had hope but its falling.

Pokey, where is your good guy right now? This was always my point about Mack, he isn't as good of a "good guy" as presented.

Whether the new coach is Saban or somebody else, Mack is showing a side of him that makes it imperative to NOT have him retained in any position wherein he can meddle with the football program. He's likely to cause problems for anybody who takes the job. We could easily lose Saban and even a good second or third choice if it becomes evident that Mack will be retained in position to meddle. Look no farther than Harsin.

At this point I'd be in favor of the "nuclear" option: fire him, give him the original buyout and NOT any kind of position at UT.

Hopefully ESPN will come in and rescue us from Mack. I wish I could shoot his ego or make him realize he has no more say at UT.

Fire the bastard then! Get some balls and tell him bye! Mack needs to vacate the university tomorrow and eat cookies for the rest of his retirement.

Hopefully ESPN will come in and rescue us from Mack. I wish I could shoot his ego or make him realize he has no more say at UT.
The University of Texas needs rescuing by ESPN.

F@#K Mack, Fire his ass and don't even give him $2.75 million.

GTFO MACK!!!

So confused. Why can't we fire him? Coaches get fired all the time..
Because they all think Mack is bigger than the program, and don't want to hurt his precious feelings. This is the culture that has been instilled at UT by DD, MB, and yes Bill Powers in the last few years.

This reads like you are giving yourself an out. All this time it's been "Saban's the guy" but now there's a way it won't be. Very convenient way to cover yourself. Not saying I don't appreciate the info you give but I can say, "My source says 100% Saban is in. Unless something changes." Isn't that always the case?

This is really sad that the administrators at the great University of Texas are allowing Mack Brown to hold everyone hostage. He has had ample time to walk away on his own gracefully. Texas doesn't owe him a dime more then what is in his contract for the buyout clause. We definitely don't need him hanging around the 40 Acres as a special assistant to the president. If he doesn't want to step down on his own then it's far past time to fire him. Nobody is above the program.

If I was in Saban's position I wouldn't want Mack involved either - I certainly won't blame him for that. If you want to change a culture, you can't have anyone around not buying in to the new regime.

I can't imagine the BMDs moving all these pieces in place over months (years?) and then letting Mack place them in a checkmate situation when he's down to his last pawn. Getting this far down the road would indicate to me that, if need be, there won't be any hesitation to fire Mack - they were just hoping to go about this in a nicer fashion.
