This place is dead

I miss SFLonghorngirl, who apparently is now in Austin in the restaurant business? She was supposed to install a landscape with me about this time last year, but I never heard back from her. Always enjoyed her posts and was glad to meet her in person. She is quite the looker :) ~
She is in DFW.  Working for a restaurant franchise group in their corporate office.  I keep in touch with her.  I keep trying to get her to come back here, but she's firmly entrenched on another site.

Please tell her I said hello for me, would ya?

Last I recall, someone said she was on Orange Blood.  For the life of me I can't understand why.

Well, MB, has my rather obtuse and vacant musings helped liven up the site a little?  I, also, started a controversial thread about Herman and I intend to start another about some rather juicy news.  I just need to triangulate my info first, so the wraths of hell won't descend upon me.

By the way, where are the ladies on this site?  Have ya'll intimidated them into silence?
What's the status of your triangulation?

She is, and a large part of it is the same reason as the title of this thread.  This site has some fantastic members, but there really needs to be more traffic.  You want to know what OBs has that this place doesn't?  Active posters that discuss just about anything.  That creates traffic, discussion and over time, a community.  A sampling of the topics on their version of the Burnt Orange Board from today:

  • Uber Lyft Austin update
  • Mischa Barton a Victim of Revenge Porn
  • Daily Soccer Threat
  • Bring Back the Aggie Game
  • Top 8 level Navy officers charged with corruption
  • South Llano River State Park
  • Kacy Clemens' response about kicking the A&M catcher's mask at home plate tonight
  • Beard Advocates: Read this, then shave
  • Fishing Pole/Line Reccomendation-Baitcasting
  • The history of an "OBism"
  • What's going on with the Romo deal?
  • I tore my Achilles tendon.  Helpful advice?
  • Best non-steakhouse steak in Austin
  • Kacy Clemens
  • Vibrator manufacturer tracking use via internet
  • Concealed Carry
  • The Insanity of Magnolia Market
  • If you could have any job not worrying about income what would it be?
  • For baseball guys, what's the deal with that Shewmake dude? Did we recruit him?
  • Only 1 in 5 Oklahoma children can read clocks
  • Foreman in the 3rd Round
  • Youth baseball bats
  • Tom Herman's Performance Groups
  • Alpine, Texas
  • Bregman trolling Odor

  • How many of the top 100 have you been to?
  • Bama has it's own combine day
  • Girl of the day
It's the offseason.  Folks want things to talk about.  It doesn't always have to be about UT sports.

Love him or hate him, Ketch has created a heck of a product over there, and they allow a myriad of topics on their main board.  That said, politics or religion will get deleted or sent to the Corral, (a highly controversial board within their system that is a free-for-all.)  Nudity will get you a week off.  Calling out another poster "sometimes" gets you a time out.

Outside of that, it's a locker room/water cooler/break room environment.  You may walk in and start talking about the game last night, or the one coming up next weekend, but eventually the conversation turns towards something else.  It may be the cute gal on the TV commercial last night.  It may be your search for a new vehicle.  Maybe your dad is ill and you are looking for some moral support.  Your BBQ pit is ready and you're looking for a few tips.  Etc., etc.

That is the main complaint/turn-off of HS from people I've sent over here.

"Not enough traffic and the posts are mainly about sports."

"No Off-topic."

"It's boring"

"Is anyone ever on there"

While I think the staff here does a phenomenal job covering recruiting and the football team, and strides are being made on baseball and basketball, this place needs some energy.  Some participation.  Some clicks.  That falls on us, the members.  If we aren't going to be active, how are we supposed to A) Keep the excitement going here, B ) draw new members and C) keep our staff in place so we have solid coverage?

This is a free site, and as such we get plenty of traffic from folks seeing links on twitter, or google.  What is needed is members who are active and engaged.  Hey, some tomfoolery once in a while is fine.

Mike is not far off base, but that doesn't mean we can't flip the switch and be more actively involved.

From a marketing perspective, the product does the selling. OB has some fine reporters who do a solid to great job. But the site existed and thrived before ketch came along from his previous position on a Texas Tech board.

There's a dark side thats not being mentioned here, but that really wasn't your point with your overall message and there's no need to go there now. But there's a reason why many posters have left and will never go back . . . and don't feel like they're missing out on a thing.

I like what you're saying about HS. I get it. We do need to kick it up a notch. Some of our posters are more or less seasonal. I don't know why UTisdabomb left and hasn't returned but he was great at kicking up activity. Of course, Juan Grande, whom I've long admired left for whatever reason. It has been slow since they left. I'd really like to see them come back.

Full disclosure, on my most recent trip to Texas, mrs. joeywa requested we stop in Waco as some glorified food cart court off of I-35 so she could shop at one of the Chip/Diane stores. Two thoughts: 1) if that place had a beer vendor, it would triple in revenues and 2) what mrs. joeywa used to call junk, is now 'trendy' 'cute' and 'darling'. Still trying to understand #2.
Many years ago, we started equating "cute" with "useless" while shopping. If it holds up for an item, we don't buy it. Works like a charm most of the time and bonus, we have far less turn-over in brick-a-brack at our home.

and as i type this, there are two people on the board on this topic. how's it hanging joeywa?
Sitting here watching it pour down rain. Already surpassed the annual rainfall total for 2017 by 5.5"

The owner of OB does one thing that can't be forgiven, IMO.  He creates sock accounts to stir clicks and manipulates his boards with them as well.  I can't abide this kind of dishonesty and be insulted even more by having to pay for it.

I don't know why but the title of this thread reminds me of the old Yogi Berra joke.

Someone asked Yogi if such and such restaurant was a good place to eat. Yogi says, "no, nobody goes there anymore because it's too crowded".
