The Top 4 Candidates

Saban isn't coming. Period.

Harbaugh brothers aren't coming. Period.

Fisher is the most likely

Would love to see them go after Brian Kelly.....

I don't understand the John Harbaugh love. I'm not going to disparage him, he won a Super Bowl and that's big, but college is a whole different animal. He'd be a risk IMO whereas the others are more proven as far as college goes.

My thoughts exactly.

My thought process:

He grew up around the college game

He coached college ball for years.

He won a Super Bowl.

His teams are always fundamentally sound.

He's taken some decent teams that got off to really bad starts, faced the adversity, rallied the troops, made the necessary adjustments and brought them back to the top ... all in the same season . He's done that mulitiple times in his career.

I don't think he's ever had a truly elite quarterback, yet, he still wins.

He will spread you out on offense and still hit you in the mouth with a sound running game (in most years)

He typcially fields a stout defense.

He is intense but a players coach.

2 things we know about bloodlines:

If your last name is Manning, you can QB.

If your last name is Harbaugh, you can coach.

What happened with that Mack to Art face to face that supposedly went well? I'd think that would result in Briles at least being on a short list, but no.Sorta confusing. I know he doesn't have the same "wow" factor or anywhere near but AB can freakin' coach and he knows Texas HS better than anyone. I'd love Jim or Jimbo but after those two I think I'd like to see Briles and Malzahn.
Mack burned any bridge he had to be a part of the selection committee.

My choices (realistic choices) Certainly I would love Harbaugh or Saban or Meyer but that is just not happening.

Fisher - unlikely but he is my stretch choice

Strong - Builds a monster D and great recruiter

Briles - Probably unlikely at this point but he has won and has connections with all the Texas HS.

Swinney - There is something that intrigues me about him. I think he has untapped potential that cannot be realized at Clemson. Needs a bigger stage. Mack was not a name brand when he came.

With all due respect, Meyer is a douche. I cannot see him as the face of our program.

Nick Saban is what he is. You either like him or you don't but he will win. My question is the duration of his service. Would he coach past 5 years on a 10 year contract?

Jim Harbaugh has won everywhere he has coached. He is young. That chin sticks out for a reason. If you aren't pissing him off he will find a way to make you piss him off.

John Harbaugh. I am intrigued.

Gus Malzahn. If you thought Mack's Sally talk grew stale just watch the video of Malzahn's wife. Not ready for prime time.

Jimbo Fisher. I don't get it.

SI was kind enough to create a 32-man bracket for us.

So if Meyer didn't pass the vetting would that also mean James Franklin is out of the running too due to the allegations that he covered up a rape at Vandy?

Too many concerns about his time at Florida is what I'm being told

My order too. If I'm dreaming I'd add Carroll as my #1 or 2 spot and Malzahan tied with Fisher.

Love the list. I think those are the best four candidates out there.
You have three guys who have BUILT programs. Malzahn is a solid choice, but he hasn't shown he can build a program and sustain success like the other three have. The one guy who hasn't built anything is John, but I'm less worried about that because he has a pretty good resource in his brother to talk to and work things out.

My order:

Jim Harbaugh

Nick Saban

John Harbaugh

Jimbo Fisher

But to be honest if we landed ANY of them I feel like it would be an absolute bottom of the 9th, 7th game of the World Series, down three, walk off grand slam of a hire.

Nick Saban ... Not going to happenJim Harbaugh ... Not going to happen

Jimbo Fisher ... Might happen

John Harbaugh ... Not going to happen

I have no information, nor do I know anyone who would tell me anything, but just a hunch. It might be time to move a little lower down the food chain of coaches?
Total opposite of what you just said, from what I've heard. Fisher should be last on your list. Two are garnering more attention than the others.

Good stuff, McPhaul!

Jimbo Fisher. I don't get it.

If it were up to me, I'd buy a muzzle for Malzahn's wife and bring him on.

I like Saban, but I think we get 5 years and no more from him. Maybe by then there's another new, hot hire out there.

Jim Harbaugh is my favorite tied with Saban. IMO, Jim would be here awhile.

My list:

1. Jim Harbaugh

2. Saban

3. Jimmy Johnson (not sure why no one is talking about him...dark horse anyone?)

4. John Harbaugh

5. Chip Kelly

Perhaps Franklin is not on Patterson's list.

Interesting thought on Malzahn. If you think he is worthy in spite of his wife then I am open to it.

Harbaugj has been my pick all along followed by Saban.

The more I think about the other Harbaugh, the more I like him. What do you think about John?
