About all the love CS gets from players, well, kids often love their teachers. But if the kids keep failing, they need a new teacher, probably someone they love a little less but who prepares them the best. He's a football coach first and a father figure second.

Sounds like things are progressing nicely. I'd be happy with either of these gentlemen.

John Harbaugh is a bit of a wild card, IMO, but he'd have his brother's superlative experience from which to draw. Maybe Jim has him convinced that the CFB lifestyle is better for him and his family? Fewer hours, for sure, during the summertime once the recruiting class is signed and delivered.

I would hope UT calls several coaches to gage a level of interest, including Saban and Meyer.  Don't make any assumptions. Have them or their agent tell you "Not interested."   Once you get your top five that have expressed interest, you then start to sharpen the pencil.  

And at the end of the day, if Herman ends up your guy.....fine with me.  I just don't want Herman to be the ONLY coach you talk to.

Yeah I"ve heard there's a faction of BMDs who are close with Perrin/Fenves and want to have a committee – if only for appearance and leverage. Said committee would be nothing formally gathered. This again provides some leverage with Herman but also at least initiates a Plan B if things head south and don't materialize with Herman for some reason.

I've also heard there is great reluctance in the AD and Prez offices right now. Ugghhh.

Idk how much I would buy into that. There's information flying everywhere, and I have no clue what's accurate and what isn't. Inside Texas says Strong is out no matter what, and they're the only other place where I've read news about the coaching situation.

At this point I don't know what to believe anymore. If Strong comes back it would not surprise me in the least.

My 2 cents is that it is still at least possibility.  

Perrin and Fenves are two PC guys living in a PC world.  They dont want the image of the school tainted.  Nor do they want their own reputations kicked around.  We are already taking fire out there.  I am not fully confident these two guys, in the face of all of that incoming heat, will have the courage and conviction to do what needs to be done.

But admittedly, I can only speculate.  We will all know soon enough.

Maybe I'm missing something here but I can't see John Harbaugh as an alternative at all.  Other than being Jim's brother what's the excitement about?  Hasn't coached in college in 20 years, and I'm hard pressed to identify an NFL coach that has come to the college game and hasn't sucked.  I'll give you Pete Carroll, but look at the mess he left behind.  IMO hiring him would be akin to Nebraska when they hired Callahan...set the program back another 3 years.  Again, am I missing something with this because I can see ton's of better options
