The Big 12's Exposure Problem?

The Oklahoma Daily is advocating more Thursday and Friday night games for the Big12 due to their disappointment with FoxSports1. Hey, good idea Okies. Oklahoma rarely schedules contests outside of Saturday, but maybe it’s time for the powers-that-be to reconsider their scheduling philosophy.

The harsh reality of college football is that not every team has an exclusive deal with NBC and not every team gets the pleasure of a noon kickoff broadcasted on a television network which most casual fans aren’t aware even exists.

Well hell, let's go all out and sew up Tuesdays and Wednesdays, most of them are open.  Then we won't be competing with those vaunted conferences like MAC, Sunbelt etc.

Trust me, Java, I don't make a habit of trolling OU students' blogs or newspapers. This nonsense just popped up on my Twitter feed through a Big12 fan site. Lesson learned - never again.

It's just inane click-bait - like most of Clay Travis' writing.

Fox Sports will never be taken seriously as long as they are making decisions such as hiring Clay Travis to do studio work for Big 12 games. Every Big 12 fan knows he is a blatant aggy homer and Horns fans know of his constant hit pieces aimed at the Horns. There a number of things Fox can do to improve their broadcasts other than move them to Thurs of Fri nights.

Yall think people make decisions to watch or not watch based on studio analyst? I watch games of interest where ever they're bein shown.

 
There is a point made.

How do you think the nation feels about watching Iowa State, KU, TTU or even KSU play football?  Sure, I know every conference has their bottom feeders, but doesn't it seem like ours are the worst?  And because we are a 10 team conference, doesn't it make the Big 12, as a whole, look even worse?

You can add Baylor and TCU to that list.  Even though they are enjoying recent success, they have historically been bottom feeders and don't enjoy a national following.  Plus their OOC schedule doesn't give them credibility to back up their W-L record.

If its a meaningful game, it isn't on Fox Sports to begin with. Fox has no T1 rights whatsoever. If I'm flipping through the channels and land on a Fox Big 12 broadcast, I am almost guaranteed to change the channel if Travis is on and not always guaranteed to come back the that particular game. Broadcasters don't usually find studio talent the viewers tune out. Why Fox decided to hire someone for Big 12 games who openly mocks the conference is baffling.

I don't think that's true, RD.

It's my understanding that FOX and ESPN "share" the T1 & T2 media rights for the Big12. They take turns choosing what games to broadcast weekly on their channels. Admittedly, I haven't read the contract or fully understand its details. Have you seen it?

 
Nationally the Big 12 is Texas and OU, that's it. It hurts our conference tremendously when those two are down. Give credit to Baylor and TCU for picking up the slack but they'll never fill the shoes of Texas or OU.

That's what makes the SEC the best conference, they have more teams that are recognized nationally. Not because they are SO much better athletically. That's why I'm not bothered by people saying the SEC is the best conference. What bothers me is the level of bias that is presented by ESPN week in and week out giving bottom feeders more credibility than they deserve
