It is funny that mammy brought up John Harbaugh would be the best fit at Texas because a buddy and me were talking about yesterday.

IMO the best fit in this order would be:

John Harbaugh

Jimbo Fisher

Nick Saban

Jim Harbaugh

Art Briles

Gus Malzahn

Jim Mora Jr

I would prefer either of the Harbaugh's or Saban.

On what basis are you suggesting John H being the best fit? I think he could be fine but he doesn't have much college experience. I would put him lower on the list bc of that very important criteria.

I still think Fisher is probably the best fit. Multiple type offense, lots of college experience, great recruiter and it could also mean a return of Tim Brewster to Texas.

I have no clue. So far, the most successful in college has been Saban.

Fisher resurrected a FSU team to a NC contender after they were basically where we are now.

Jim Harbaugh turned Stanford into a respectable program before leaving for the pros.

John Harbaugh has been one of the most productive coaches in the NFL over the amount of time that he's been there.

Briles and Malzahn both have small track records as HCs of schools in major conferences, but have done well.

So if we're looking at facts and history, Saban is the low risk-high reward candidate. Fisher would be next for me. After that, it's a crapshoot.

If you're asking me who I'd rather have based on my gut...I'd pick Jim Harbaugh first.

Agree. John Harbaugh has the temperament to deal with LHN and other non-football related activates while also being a strong X & O coach.

I agree with you. Interestingly enough, I tend to agree with just about all of your posts.

Do you come from a sports family? I ask because you seem very knowledgeable.

Bingo. I just don't see John getting rattled where others might actually hate aspects of being the HC at Texas.

Jim Harbaugh is the fiery brother, while John is the more laid back. John is also a very strong players coach. Last year when the Ravens were struggling, he called a meeting with guys like Ray Lewis and Ed Reed and asked them what the problem was and took their answers and changed what he was doing to work with the team and they went on the win the Super Bowl. That says a lot as a coach.

Thanks! No, my parents were not into sports at all. I've always loved sports even when I was a little girl. My mom, being a Tiger Mom, would only allow me to watch one hour of tv every night. I chose Sports Center! :) Maybe that's where I got my sports knowledge.

I also love playing every single sport imaginable.

I guess I am starting to lean more towards Fisher then Saban. I have a feeling that there is something already in place just waiting for the bowl games to be over.

There is not enough of a track record to put Fisher in the same category as the Harbaugh brothers. Of course IMO..

Here is why I like John. He is tough. He brings elite energy. He is competitive. He is very good in front of a group. Big or small. He works well with others at all levels. His teams are always great on defense and special teams. He has shown he can develop players. He understands the importance of hearing opinions and can discard the bad ones with respect and admit the good ones have merit and implement them. He went from being a special teams coach to HC. He understands ideas can come from everywhere.

He was an assistant in college for a bunch of years. His father, who is still very active in his sons lives, coached in college for a very long time. Both John and Jim are learners. They want to know how to do things and how they work. They figure it out quickly.

My only negative is his offenses have been inconsistent to some degree.

I am a diehard, 100% San Francisco 49er faithful so it is fair to take this with a grain of salt although I am trying to be completely unbiased. Jim is CONSTANTLY in competition on something. He is CONSTANTLY hounding people about ways this or that could be better or improved. Not just about the team itself but EVERYTHING. This can wear on those around him. The AD at the U of San Diego and Stanford said it as well as people in the admins at both.

I think John could be here for 15-20 years. His kids will always play hard and physical. He has incredibly strong values they do not waiver from.

I am personally kind of hoping for John. Saban would be great as well.

Good list.

Malzahn isn't my first choice, but I think he is one of the best fits. I'd put him above Briles. Malzahn is well spoken, famikiar with the state amd has a lot to offer. The state is perfect for his style.

Outside of Jim H. and Urban, John is my favorite for the reasons already stated. I think he is a realistic hire.

If Jim, Urban and Saban say no, I think it comes down to John Harbaugh, Malzahn and Jimbo Fisher.

And I hope it is John Harbaugh or Gus Malzahn. Both just have IT. They make adjustments on the fly... They blend in anywhere... They are alpha males..

My first 2 choices are Jim Harbaugh and Malzhan.

I'd still be thrilled with brother John, Saban, Jimbo or Briles.
