***Texas vs. Rice Baseball - Game 1***

I know people will look at the box score and see all those K's and fear the worst. 2 things to keep in mind:

1. It takes a few games to get timing down at the plate. BP and intersquads will only get you so far. This is compounded by quality Rice pitching.

2. Almost every K was swinging. That's a real positive from a plate approach/mentality standpoint. It also goes back to point #1...that aggressive approach will pay dividends when timing is improved.
I'm actually impressed with what we did with the bats. We created a lot of scoring opportunities against a very good pitching staff.

I thought we were a little overly aggressive at the start, but that's expected in the first game. Once we started working the counts a little bit the bats came alive.

Don't fool yourselves, Jeff has had a few. Great work bud!
No.  I sat down in front of the TV & laptop and had my own early season hiccup by not grabbing a cold beer to have at my side.  I should probably have to run poles or something for that.  I could see it out of a rook, but I'm supposed to be a seasoned veteran.

I'll do better with my Press Box prep tomorrow.  Plus, it's Saturday, so my lovely waitress, (mrs joeywa) will be here.  Maybe she'll grab me a beer when it's needed?  Probably not, but a guy can dream, right?  :D

If that's the reaction I get, then I did my job.  Thanks Bear!

Looking at the box score...

- Rice outhit UT 10-6, but Texas turned 3 DP's and stranded 10.

- 4 scoreless for the pen (Duke 2 - Mayes 1 - Culbreth 1).

- McCanna was excellent tonight - retired 10 straight from 1st-4th.

- The three Texas runs came from baserunners that reached via error (2) or BB (1).

- Rice's run was scored by a hit batter.
