With pitching taking a step back, seeing the offense explode was great. We may be winning more games 8-4 this year instead of 3-1.
Probably being too critical here but comparing them to their performances to start the season, no ERs against top end competition no less, to giving up 11 runs in their last 4 combined starts. They've had good starts but not the untouchable dominance they had going early on.Thanks for your input. I am curious about your comments about Stevens and Hansen. Hansen had a hiccup in T1, giving up a run early. He pitched 5 frames, giving up 2 ER on 4 hits, striking out 6, walking 1. He was pulled after 5 because the bottom half of the 5th was crazy long due to Texas scoring 9 runs. He left the game with a 17-2 lead.
Stevens went 7 complete, giving up a run in the 2nd and another in the 7th, both earned. He allowed 7 hits, issued no walks and struck out 2. He is not a big K pitcher, rather he pitches at a rapid pace and pitches to contact. He left the game with a 10-2 lead.
Can you help me understand your comments/thought process? Perhaps your ideas of "dominant" & "taking a step back" are different than mine.
I think you’re being far too critical here. Allowing 2 walks and 4 runs all weekend is pretty salty and Id take that every weekend.Probably being too critical here but comparing them to their performances to start the season, no ERs against top end competition no less, to giving up 11 runs in their last 4 combined starts. The staff as a whole has taken a step back, hard not to after the incredible start they had. ERA was <1 and now its 2.66. Still really good, just not how we started.

Correct, UIW is not a top tier team. That said, they were the slump buster the team probably needed to get things back on track. Also it was a great opportunity for Sean Allen to get his bullpen arms some work, and get some looks at them in varied situations. You’re not going to get many chances to do that over the conference stretch. Another sub-par opponent tomorrow in Central Arkansas then it’s off to the paradise that is Lubbock to kick off conference play.Love getting the sweep but from the game and 1/2 that I watched, UIW is not a very good defensive team overall. We won't be getting those breaks against better teams.
The weekend series against Tech will be telling.
