*** Texas vs. Baylor Game Thread - Big 12 Tournament***

I've been on record in saying, I have no problem with Barnes being fired after next year if he doesn't do anything. I just don't know how you fire a coach that has one of the youngest teams in the country and is way ahead of schedule. It would be one thing if we were losing everyone and starting over, but we are returning everybody. Just my opinion though.

Just with mack, it's always a death spiral when the coach gets out coached. Exactly what half time adjustments did Barnes make tonight? ZERO. Barnes walked in the locker room at the half clueless about how to win this game.

He got out coached, no denying that. Happens. I try not to judge a coach though on a single game. Bottom line Barnes has the third youngest team in the country and exceeded expectations this year, and has the team in the tournament as most likely a 6 seed. Barnes did a hell of job this year coaching a very young team and essentially a new roster. I can't argue that he should be fired this year because I think he's done an outstanding job. Like I said though, he has no excuses next year. Needs to win a big 12 title or make a deep run in the NCAA tournament. I think it would be a big mistake to fire Barnes after this year. No need to start over when we have a young team on the rise. If the circumstances were different surrounding this year and the future of this team I would be all for Barnes being fired.

I would argue that your arguments are the EXACT reason we need to start over with a new coach.

You are entitled to your opinion and I can understand the rationale behind Barnes being fired. IMO I don't think it's the right move under the circumstances though.

Pathetic performance by Texas tonight. The table was set. Kansas got beat by ISU and we beat Baylor twice during the regular season. Can you smell the Big 12 Championship?

I love my university but I cannot control the anger tonight. We couldn't make anything and we couldn't rebound. Heading into the NCAA's I am terrified of a loss to a 13 seed. Dammit Barnes!

If Barnes could produce wins with this underrated young Texas team, imagine what a better coach could have achieved.

I agree. But a new coach and we probably see a couple transfers, have no shot at getting Turner, and I bet Holmes/Ridley would think about going pro. In addition, it will take a couple years or two for that coach to implement his system. If you make a coaching change I think this team won't be intact next year, that's why I'm willing to give Barnes another year since he exceeded expectations this year.

On a side note. I had no clue Baylor had so many senior players. Heslip, Franklin, and Jefferson are all seniors. I can see why they are doing so well in the tournament, leadership and experience is critical. Might be tough next year though because Austin will probably be going pro in addition to those players graduating.

So when exactly would it be time to can Barnes? Because I get the feeling people (whoever these people are) will come up with yet ANOTHER excuse to not fire him next year.

It happens year after year. We know he should be fired. We come up with superficial excuses not to. Same with Mack.

Giving Barnes' track record, it'll be another wasted year. I would rather have 1 down year with new coach than a promising year and be another 1 and done.

Doesn't win the Big 12 next year or make a final four I'll be all for firing him.
