Texas needs a new Identity

...no matter how bad we are gridiron wise at the end of the season... i always begin the new season with the utmost optimism. why, because we are "texas"... and our tradition vs culture alone, shall more than guarantee... that we are never "substandard" upon any event.
to others, this very sentiment may come across as "grandiose vs arrogant"... but to "texas" this sentiment is as normal as the "star" upon our state flag.

the university of texas does harbor a "mystique"... it is, what it is!

That's as good as gold right there, you should copyright the hell out of that.

I hate to say it but : Texas does not strike fear in the heart of opponents, they should be unbeatable in DKR stadium but they arent, How embarrassing was it to see UT a double digit underdog in 3 different games this year, and sure enough they lost two of those three...We are a double digit underdog to OREGON...WTH, in what universe would UT ever have been that big of an underdog in a BOWL game

Maybe UT needs to start recruiting some bad boy azzz kickers, guys with an edge...there are enough nice guys already enrolled in school at UT, give me some guys that will rip someone a new one, and a coach that will feed them raw meat, not one that will stand by and clap,clap, clap

BTW I am talking about the coaches of young men that have followed their heart to The University of Texas only to be let down by the grown men that lack the aforementioned traits.

I use to think Mack was a great recruiter...unfortunately I am left to believe he was the best snake oil salesman in the state.

That Identity starts at the top. From the President to the AD to the Head Coaches to the Assistant coaches to the experienced players.

For the past 10+ years, Dodds has only cared about $$$. If winning came with it great as long as he had the most $$$. Patterson will hopefully care more about Winning but that will bring all the $$$ Texas needs. Texas has had subpar Leadership, Heart, Fight, Toughness at many Head Coaching positions. Accountability is a word coaches use a lot but there isnt any from the Head Coaches here.

Texas, in the past few years, is a punchline to jokes, and rightfully so. Texas is the definition for Underachiever.

With the resources that Texas has, how can it ever go 5-7 in football, not make the NCAA tourney in basketball, finish last in baseball, etc.

Texas does have a recent Identity - Failure is acceptable.

Hopefully new Leadership will lead to Accountability combined with the Toughness and Heart of a Champion and will lead to great Success!

We keep hearing "We are the Joneses"...we won't be for long if the problems you mentioned are not addressed. Btw where did we rank in the financial world sports wise in 1996? I ask, because Mack and DD have taken us back to square 1 w/ their misguided mentality.

Don't blame Manziel for atm's problems.

they had little of a running game and a horrible defense. hard to compete when you're one dimensional.

He lit up Alabama and played well against Auburn.

While it's hard to imagine Manziel in a burnt orange jersey, he would have done well for the Longhorns.

There are very few coaches that don't specialize on their side of the ball, recruit for their side of the ball and leave the othervside lacking.

Saban's teams play physicalmon both sides. So do both Harbaughs.

I agree. There was a combination of stud talent, Heisman level QB play, and bad ass assistants & coordinators capable of masking Mack's deficiencies at times. The problem is Mack never recognized that for what it was and as soon as that magic mix was gone we regressed back to the same old tendencies.

That said, I'm far more excited about the future at this point. I believe we are on our way back to being a DKR level program with this new hire with a DKR type profile of being tough, hard nosed, and disciplined. That's something we will all be able to be proud of again.
