This may not be a one of my popular post and I may have been very fortunate but, the Aggies I grew up with, played football with, neighbors and have worked with have always been outstanding human beings.

Now I'm well aware that they have more than their share of idiots but, I have not had to encounter very many bad Aggies in my life.

And so? :)

They are largely decent people when dealing with them as individuals. The problems arise when they congregate in groups. I have known many individuals who studied in College Station who were nice people. I have run into few groups of aggys that were other than in-your-face, annoying, and intolerable.

All in all, they are much like ants. A single ant can be seen as industrious, dedicated and rather interesting to watch. However....

I have a few aggie friends and neighbors. They're genuinely nice people and good Texans.

The problems arise when discussing anything related to A&M because they collectively lack objectivity. Group-think and conformity seem to be pervasive with most. Case in point, when A&M left the Big 12 for SEC they spent an inordinate amount of time complaining about Longhorn Network and how UT wasn't a "good partner"; we're selfish, greedy, too independent, etc.

I asked my neighbor politely and point blank, "What's to stop y'all from starting an Aggie Network?" *crickets*

Yep, delusional in groups...like watching "Da Bears" on SNL.

Well I found that when I am around them aggys, my blood pressure goes to 186/116 and then have to put nitroglycerin under my tongue....so I have no use for them in a pack. So lets just "BREAK" off their thumbs

I have a good amount of aggy friends, it's always fun to "debate" football w them.

My favorite aggie debate is their thinking that A&M was chosen instead of UT for a 'prestigious' SEC membership. Like they they had somehow earned a merit-based promotion or are better than us. Really? Based on what objective measure?

The SEC and Mike Slive wanted into the Texas market before launching SEC Network. It was about gaining distribution and TV household penetration. UT wasn't moving due to our LHN commitment. Slive wanted the 2nd best TX brand? Unlikely.

Honestly, I can't blame A&M for joining the SEC. They needed to find an edge for competing with UT athletically, especially in football. Historically, a level playing field didn't work for them.

I guess I'm the exception to the rule around here, because I don't count very many fans of the agricultural and mechanical college among my friends. I suppose that individually, I've had a fair amount of reasonable dealings with them, especially when they weren't in full aggy mode and I could just handle business with them. I wouldn't be prone to inviting them to a party ( I do NOT like the aggy war hymn sung at MY parties!) and I'd rather just avoid conversations with them that are gonna wind up being like an aggy cheer practice. Even the most rational people who become students in collie station get infected with aggy fever, start speaking in tongues, chanting "S-E-C" at any and every opportunity, and waste no chance at taking verbal potshots at a school that's no longer in their league or on their schedule. I guess old habits die hard. I know it's fashionable around here to take the high road and take a pass on insulting aggy, but my tolerance level just isn't that high. I like Prop Joe and a couple of other ags that come here to post, but otherwise...no thanks, I prefer to hold my old biases against the toy soldiers. I'm too old to start changing now. As for debating aggy on anything, I can think of a lot of descriptions...none that begin with "fun".

That has been my experience as well. Many of my good friends over the years have been Aggy, Sooner, Tech, Baylor, Pig

I find good people from all those places, but it is the collective that can be the problem

I HAD Aggie friends.

One has been re-educated and I released the rest back into the wild.

Why is it that this subject must always be brought up? Aggies were the enemy. Now they are just another blade of grass in a large field. Why must they continually be singled out and discussed? Seems some here are as intrigued with their goings on as they are with ours. Why not just let them fade into oblivion again? It is bound to happen.

I for one will never try and have an intelligent debate with an agy again. They are dillusional to the root. It's a little bit of the red headed stepchild/little person syndrome plus a huge inferiority complex. Count me as one that thinks this place would be better off if they were run off.

I had an Aggy friend for 20 years. I was very nice to him in his down years even though he was really obnoxious in the 90's.

In 2008, he was beside himself with joy that Blow U won the Big 12 due to tie breaker rules even though we beat them on the field that year.

I remember asking him how he would feel if that happened to A&M. His only answer was that it didn't matter as long as Texas got screwed. It made him happy.

I didn't answer a phone call, a text or an e-mail for about 3 years before he got the hint that I wanted nothing to do with him.

Agreed.
