Texans....

You mean like the current Super Bowl champion QB that was drafted in the 2nd half of the 1st round(and he's really not good) or they guy that started opposite him taken in the 2nd. How about the guy on the best team in the NFL going in the 3rd round? Bridgewater is not Luck or Griffin, nor is he head and shoulders better than Keenum. Bridgewater reminds me a lot of Ponder and Locker, do you want to trade for those guys?
You build a team without as many holes as the Texans have, then you find out what you have at QB and go from there.
You think Keenum is a superbowl caliber QB?

Did you think the two that made it there last year were? I don't know if he is or not, but I do know that no QB in the current draft can come make a huge difference on a team as devoid of talent and depth as the Texans currently are.

How can you possibly know that.

As you said Flaco was not a top flight pick and he won. Drew Brees has a ring. So does Aaron Rodgers.

The Texans aren't devoid of talent. They won 13 games last year. They need some help yes but nothing 1 or 2 good drafts doesn't solve.

Look at where they are weak. RT, DB, IL. You don't use top 10 picks on those positions. The only other spot they really need help is QB. Which you do use a top 10 pick on.

Don't know what you have against Bridgewater but the kid has a great arm, great feet and seems to be a pretty cool customer. Oh and he's about 5 inches taller than Keenum.

Hilarious that you would mention height in same post saying Brees has won a championship. I agree that you spend a Top 10 pick on QB whenever there is one to spend it on. You don't spend it on another guy that is not discernible better than the young guy you have. I would rather build a team that is deep then go get a QB than drafted one onto a team that has needs at almost every position on the team. I would think the Texans would have learned from the Carr-Peppers and Young-Williams drafts.

My opinion - drafting a quarterback with the number 1 overall pick is a bad idea. Trade back. Too many holes on the line, linebacking corps, defensive backs, and you can parlay the number 1 into a couple of 1st rounders that make your team much better than a speculative QB pick. Keenum isn't great, but he's cheap, and he's effective enough for a bad team, which is what the Texans are right now.

I just dont see the defense as THAT bad.

With that said, I do think there needs to be some shopping for a LB since Cushing keeps getting hurt and making the defense average. Foster is not going to last forever either.

They are worse than THAT bad, they are f'ing horrible. Watt is the only above average healthy player on the defense. Everyone else is replaceable.

Houston's Defensive Rankings:

Total D - 9th

Yards Per Game - 3rd

Passing Defense - 2nd

Rushing Defense - 27th

Scoring Defense - 27th

Turnover Differential: -14

Its not absolutely horrible. Doesnt help that Houston QBs have thrown 18 TDs and 14 INTs (10 from Schaub) or so many Schaub picks went for a TD.

Its not that far off from being a competitive team.

Antonio Smith - gone after the year

Earl Mitchell - decent starting player, though he is playing out of position as a 3-4 NG

JJ Watt - best defensive player in the franchises history.

Brooks Reed - bust as a 2nd round pick. 10.5 career sacks with 6.0 coming his rookie season.

Darryl Sharpton - oft injured MLB, would make a decent back-up ST player

Joe Mays - decent starting MLB

Brian Cushing - 2 straight years of getting knee blown out, now signed to a over market contract based on playing on one leg.

Whitney Mercilous - Has 12 career sacks so far in his career, but is horrible against the run and in coverage. Not the consistent difference maker so far, approaching bust level.

Johnathan Joseph - Had a great 1st season, 2nd season he was injured, this year he has been below average.

Kareem Jackson - Bust

Brice McCain - sucks

Brandon Harris - 2nd round bust

Shiloh Keo - HAHAHA

D.J. Swearinger - rookie that has made more bad plays than good. Can't control himself on the field.

Danieal Manning - Had a great 1st year, 2nd year as below average, 3rd year injured but was playing poorly, likely gets cut.

This defense is abysmal.
