Is there anyway we can force him to transfer or maybe think of life outside of football he's baddd

This was nothing other than embarrassing from the offense he makes case McCoy look like VY

I have faith in the defense but idk how anyone can have much faith in the offense till we have a qb who can maybe go win a game

Tonight was it for the coaching staff. They are done with swoopes. He will continue to take reps and fuel the QB competition but he has shown that he is terrified out there, no confidence. He is done as UT's starting QB. Great guy, I wish him the best. You cannot play this game scared.

I don't know why we didn't put in Vinklarek at some point during Q4 tonight.

The game was out of hand and we had nothing else to lose. Why not see if somebody on our roster could provide a spark? Our staff coaches scared, too. I don't get it.

The kid has a great arm, but he hasn't shown the ability to read defenses, even on zone-read plays.
Swoopes is done.  I don't find pleasure saying it but it is reality.

Re: zone read, Lukus, you saw the same play I did, TS hands off to I think Gray and the hole for Swoopes (he had to see) he could have driven the USS Abraham Lincoln through it.  Had he kept the ball, TS probably could have run into the end zone standing up.

Frustrating!!!

Guys I'm afraid our coaching staff on offense thinks they can make a player out of Swoopes. Also afraid Heard may have issues in learning "whatever the hell" Watson is trying to teach. The old saying if you have two  "starting" QBs you have none. We have two OCs, and it looks like we actually have NONE.

Not to leave the defense out....They sucked pretty bad too. How I wish we had kept Greg Robinson.

I have tried to be the one saying that he just needed a chance. However, it continues to baffle me just how out of touch he seems in a game. He has the arm, he has the physical ability, but he is missing two very important things...

1. Reading Defenses

2. Poise

He just does not seem to have the mental make-up that you need from the position. He's not stupid, he just doesn't have that "IT" that makes good QBs tick. I think he is a stand up guy and works his ass off, but that does not make one a good QB.

Heard does not need to grasp this offense to be better than TS. He just needs to show that he can handle the pressure and read the defenses and he will take the starting spot by default.

Kind of made me mad when Strong said that Watson's job was safe.  I think he needs to reevaluate that stance and talk to some coaches who are a lot more knowledgeable about offensive football than he is so that he can get a better perspective on what is going on on that side of the ball.  Loyalty is good, but not to the detriment of the team.

Just got home from work so apparently I didn't miss much. Gentry/Heard battle in the Spring. Watch Zaire play QB for ND tomorrow against LSU. 1st opponent and QB to prepare for. Golson's done due to turnovers.

I think the most frustrating thing for me is the look on Swoopes face everytime he comes of the field and his demeanor on the sidelines. We were spoiled with VY and Colt. They were leaders on the field and were motivators on the sideline. Swoopes sitting on the sideline with the sad look on his face is not the confidence I'm looking for in any player much less the QB. If he hasn't developed further than he has by now, I'm not sure he can. For a kid that was a running qb in high school, he undoubtedly ran some form of option. How is it that it is a complete guess for him every time we run the zone read? Furthermore, his throws haven't improved as much as you'd hope. He misses too many short throws and hasn't found the touch for the long ball. Finally, he is still struggling with locking on receivers and not going through progressions. Its hard for me to figure out if the issue is the scheme or breakdowns in execution.

I don't want to pile on Tyrone.

I liked David Ash quite a bit as a QB and think/believe this season would have gone much better had he not been forced out.

But he was and it became 'sink or swim' with Swoopes.

And I think almost all of us quickly realized what the coaches already knew -- Swoopes was in over his head.

At that point, the only choices left to us were -- pull the shirt off Heard or coach Swoopes up.

We did neither.

While I blame most of the stink of this season on Mack Brown (and Dodds/Powers for that matter), there is nonetheless the lingering question whether Watson can get the job done as "Co-OC" and QB coach.  The available evidence to us is that Tyrone Swoopes did not improve over time.  He was making the same mistakes all season long, including this bowl game.  It's hard to believe he did not improve at all, but that is how it went.

How much of that is on him?  How much is on Watson?  Did Watson adjust his schemes and play-calling to suit Swoopes?  Other than not trusting Swoopes to unleash the same deep ball Ash would have, if it happened, I did not see it.  One small example against Piggy were the wide open zone-read lanes that Swoopes refused to run to.  Those were there most of the season yet he rarely took advantage of them.  Against Piglet, I cannot recall that he kept the ball on any zone-read play.  Did Watson coach him not to take off there (fearing loss of our only QB)?  if he did, why run the zone read,as it becomes ineffective if the QB never keeps?  Or, was it on Swoopes?  Did he not see the open lanes?  Was he afraid to run?

I say that, at some point over the course of a full season, the blame must fall on the coach.  No improvement over time.  No adjustments.  It doesn't bode well for the future.

If we run this same offensive plan with this same crappy OLine but we have a QB that will hit the open receivers then we are competitive in this game. Heck we probably score 21 points if our QB just makes the easy throws.
