Posting this thread because work outs are already underway and Spring camp is nearing.

Here's a quote from Burton today that might make you smile re frosh Jermaine Bishop.

The running style of Jermaine Bishop is different than his classmates. “He runs like a deer,” the source said. For those unfamiliar with the phrase, it means his feet barely touch the ground.

First look at new #Texas RT Melvin Siani in winter workouts.

Tidbit from CJ Vogel today . . . Hayward Howard Jr. is turning heads with his speed, both in the straight line and coming out of breaks. He is in the running for fastest cornerback and is doing so at just 17 years old.

And also:
Folks around the program have echoed this same message to me pretty consistently: "Texas is going to be in the end zone a lot."

OTF

Expect Jaydon Chatman to start at left guard, starting out, for Spring ball. Also, said to expect Jordan Coleman as the left OT while Goosby recovers from his surgery. Coleman is your OT #3 and has earned it.

Projected slot Mosely will miss most or all of spring ball healing from an injury. Daylan McCutcheon is penciled in to replace him for the spring.

I would assume if Goosby or Siani couldn't play they would move Baker back to T and put someone else in at Guard. But hopefully we don't have to find out.

Again hearing that freshman DB Haywood Howard continues turning heads with his testing numbers. He won't turn 18 years old until July and he's already 6'4. Tall DB with speed and agility is an awesome combination.

Kohen Brown, Jermaine Bishop, and Samari Matthews, Jamarion Carlton, Zina O, are others who are standing out early.

Per Bobby

Jordan Coleman looks ready to compete for a starting spot somewhere, especially if Laurence Seymore does not gain eligibility. Coleman is working first team left tackle currently in Trevor Goosby’s absence.

Expect major competition among the depth at receiver. Do not be completely surprised if Kohen Brown and Jermaine Bishop somehow pass both Kaliq Lockett and Daylan McCutcheon in spring. Bishop’s speed hits different. Brown’s speed is better than anticipated and his mentality matching. The pecking order for receiver in 2027 is in play.

Some notes on the first day of practice, paraphrased from OTF's report by Burton today.

1. RB room is the polar opposite of last year's room. Each of our RBs have good to great speed. Increase in speed an explosiveness. Main three are Smothers, Brown, and Derrek Cooper. He also mentioned Ryan Niblett as having a good day. Sark calls him his "swiss army knife."

2. Not much cutting (routes by WRs and RBs) done today because of the wet field/soil.

3. Smothers rolled his ankle this morning. He did finish the practice though.

4. No other WR we have looks or plays anything like Cam Coleman. He's just on a different level than the others.

5. Jelani McDonald is a team leader and has turned his body into a statue sculpture. He's put on more size (muscle) since even December.

6. Littleton, Masco and Wardell Mack were the only ones playing nickle today. Muschamp is coaching the nickle spot himself.

7. Melvin Siani and Jordan Coleman have the two best tackle bodies on the field today.

8. The size of LB Rocky Cummings really jumps out at you. Very agile as well.

KJ Lacey was your QB today. Manning suited up, but did not participate.

It appears Dia Bell is ahead of the transfer QB. Both Bell and Lacey were zipping the ball with accuracy, despite the balls being wet for the most part.

Kaliqe Lockett looked good today. Did not drop a pass and caught a long pass for a TD.

First team OL was L-R: Jordan Coleman, Jaydon Chatman, Conner Robertson, Brandon Baker, Melvin Siani

Jordan Coleman looks like a future NFL draft pick, 6'5, 350

Cojoe and Goosby sat out. Seymore is not on campus yet.

With Hicks, Filsaime, and Jonah Williams (baseball) out, Derrick Williams and Jelani McDonald were the safeties. JJR and frosh Toray Davis were 2nd team.

Kobe Black and Kade Phillips were the 1st team corners. W. Roberson, Haywood Howard and Samari Matthews were mixed in behind them.

NT Geffrard moves much better than you'd expect a 380 lb man to move. Sharma andn Watson have added a lot of muscle.

Wingo warmed up but didn't participate (coming off injury)

Justis Terry was in a sling and did not participate.

Isaiah Stokes, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound, unsigned backer was on campus this morning for the first practice of the spring. He is from Zachary, La. Originally committed to UL Monroe but did not sign.

2027 recruits at practice today

Landen Williams-Callis, RB, Randle (Texas)

Julian Caldwell, WR, Argyle (Texas) High

Kasi Currie, DL, Sierra Canyon (Calif.) High … Top-50 player in 2027

Keyon Hemphill-Woods, Columbus (Texas) High
