Need some good reads for my trip.  I'm waiting on Lukas for "Courage Beyond the Game."

Any other recommendations?  Was thinking about picking up a John Feinstein book about golf.

can't go wrong with feinstein. i've read most of his golf books. try 'tales from q-school'.

'horns, hogs and nixon coming' is a detailed account of the 1969 'big shootout' with arkansas. does a nice job of telling the tale of the game in the context of the unsettled times of the late 60s. must read for UT fans.

I read a lot of sports books - especially autobiographies. Garrido's 'Life is Yours to Win' is an easy & fun read. Agassi's 'Open' is the best sports autobiography I've read in the last 2-3 years. It's startlingly honest.

'The GM' by Tom Callahan was really interesting.

I haven't watch much tv nor movies in a really long time.  I got into The Good Wife earlier this year.  Watched Seasons 1 - 5 through Amazon Prime, and then they go and kill off a main character.  :angry:   Any recommendations?  

I don't know how to download movies/tv shows onto my tablet.  Perhaps Juan Grande can give me a tutorial.  My plan is to take sleeping medication on long flights.  :blink:

hey sf, don't even think about toting all that stuff (books / whatnots) upon your prospective journey.  please take it from a person for whom travel's like crazy...  CONDENSE everything!

should you have an iPad...  please bring it along, and purchase your book's / magazines through iBooks.  as you are probably are already aware...  running through those large airports can be extremely stressful, the less burdens that you may harbor the better...   and you just may actually enjoy your vacation.

Lagaan!

Lagaan (Land Tax) is a 2001 Indian epic sports drama film written and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Aamir Khan, who was also the producer, stars with Gracy Singh in the lead roles; British actors Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne play the supporting roles. Made on a then-unprecedented budget of 250 million (US$4.2 million), the film was shot in an ancient village near Bhuj, India.

The film is set in the Victorian period of India's colonial British Raj. The story revolves around a small village whose inhabitants, oppressed by high taxes, find themselves in an extraordinary situation as an arrogant officer challenges them to a game of cricket as a wager to avoid the taxes. The narrative spins around this situation as the villagers face the arduous task of learning the alien game and playing for a result that will change their village's destiny.

Lagaan received critical acclaim and awards at international film festivals, as well as many Indian film awards. It became the third Indian film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film after Mother India (1957) and Salaam Bombay! (1988). It was one of the biggest box office hits of 2001. Since you like golf, try "A Good Walk Spoiled" - it is excellent.  You will love it too if you love golf.

John Feinstein is a terrific writer, so if you have already hit that one, he also wrote "A Season on the Brink."

I have mentioned "Moneyball" before but you probably need to already enjoy the subject matter to really enjoy it.

If you do like baseball, then I have a long list.  For example, if you lived and died with the 1986 NLCS (like I did), then I have the best little book on it called "The Greatest Game Ever Played" - written by a Mets beat writer but he gives the good guys a fair shake.  But its probably only good to read, if you really, really cared about that specific series.  http://www.amazon.com/Greatest-Game-Played-Jerry-Izenberg/dp/0805005137
