Sonny Cumbie and Texas

Bobby Burton on 247 is saying there is no agreement yet. Also says that Cumbie is who Charlie wants and that if he doesn't get him that Gilbert is next on the list.

On 104.9 The Horn, they just stated that Longhorn fans can expect Sonny Cumbie to be named the new Longhorn OC on Monday

If Cumbie is made official on Monday then should mean CS will definitely be back next year, right?

Quote from Chip Brown

"I'm told Cumbie and Texas run-game coordinator Jeff Traylor have a good relationship built on Cumbie having recruited players from Gilmer when Traylor was there.

The hope would be that Cumbie's passing expertise and Traylor's power spread run-game expertise would finally give Texas a united offensive vision and meeting room that would empower players and instantly be reflected on the field.

And Strong needs to be very careful in how he constructs his offensive staff, because Traylor, one of his best recruiters right now, I’m told, has been offered at least one play-calling offensive coordinator position and may have another."

So lets go with the assumption that Cumbie will be named the new OC on Monday... Do start a new 2 year clock for Charlie and his staff as it will take more than Spring practice to implement a new offense and get the right players into the key positions. What will be reasonable for next season in terms wins and performance.  Will Cumbie be given the keys to the recruiting wish list and recruit primarily for offensive production.  It is great that Cumbie is going to be our new OC but I still feel that next year we better have 7 to 8 wins or it is time to call an end to the Charlie Strong coaching era!

College offenses should be able to be implemented in one season - if not then the OC is doing it wrong.

The air raid is an offense that is supposed to be easy to install and run. The whole point in getting someone like Cumbie is you expect them to turn things around quickly.

Absolutely he is getting a new 2 year clock. Bringing in a new OC pretty much erases the past 2 years and gives Charlie at least 2 more years as long as next year is better than this year. Excuses will again be made to justify keeping Charlie here. As long as Texas goes at least 6-6 and gets in a bowl game it will be claimed that we are going in the right direction pretty much ensuring that we will miss out on our chance to get Tom Herman.

Bottom line, retaining Charlie simply means that the expectations of excellence for Texas football have gone to hell in a handbasket.

In reality if OU making the playoffs, OU winning 9 Big 12 championships since 2000, Baylor winning two Big 12 championships lately, TCU kicking our ass the last two seasons, aggy going to the SEC and upgrading their facilities, going 4-8, being 10-15 the last 2 years does not make the administration upset it is obvious winning is not the most important item on their agenda in regard to the football program.

Question, Is cumbie known as an Ace Recruiter? Are there any recruits that he might be able to pry away from TCU?
