I caught up with some sources to discuss the latest with the team.

1) There was a report out from Orangebloods' Anwar Richardson that Swoopes was blowing the field away in the QB competition. First let me say that Anwar is a very good reporter, and he's reporting what his sources are telling him. I spoke with my sources in Austin to get the latest, and they were dumbfounded by it. 2 of them outright laughed at the idea, and they re-iterated they expect Shane to be the guy this year. I also talked to a couple of players, and every one of them said they think Shane wins the job. In addition, I talked to some others in the media and they all say the same thing I'm hearing. I'm not sure who the source is for Anwar, but either he's being misled, or he's waaaaay ahead of the curve.

2) There were some whispers that Deshon Elliott has overtaken Jason Hall for the safety position. Elliott has done well this summer, and his focus has been to get in the film room more than anything. While he is making progress, the job is still Hall's from what we understand.

3) Denzel Okafor is for real, and he's starting to make a push at right tackle.

4) there's some difference in opinion on when a starter might be named quarterback. The majority of my sources believe it will be next week following the first scrimmage, but there are a few that believe this will stretch out to game week. The reps have been split between Swoopes and Buechele, but we are told if there is an edge it is toward Buechele.

Clearinghouse for sure which is by no means a safe bet. Don't believe it until he's on the field.

That's a damn shame about McNeal. I was really pulling for him. I thought he played a major role in getting Malik to UT.

Great stuff Roach. Thanks for posting.

The mods on OB are saying the Anwar's sources are about as high up as you can get. Whatever that means.

Sounds like some games are being played. Perhaps by Charlie.

I would never expect OB to come out and say "oh, never mind, his source was wrong" or Anwar to do the same. I've never seen an internet reporter or site do that. If he's wrong, they'll just bide their time until it blows over, coming up with some excuses as to why he was wrong. If he was right, then I think a lot of people will be bowing to him over it. Should be interesting to see how it ends up.

One of my friends I speak to and has been to a couple of practices and laughed when I asked him about what Anwar said. I won't say what he said after that but suffice to say it was in ridicule of OB. According to him, Shane has a slight edge and not because it's his opinion. He feels that way simply because of the coaches behavior around Shane. They act like he's their guy.

What if I told you that the offensive coordinator laughed his ass off whe he heard that report? I didn't talk to Sterlin, but that's what was relayed to me.
Tell Anwar, not me  :)

While I don't believe what Anwar reported, I also don't think that it is as far-fetched as a lot of people think.

Is anybody concerned the Buechele-mania is fueled by a nice half in the spring game?

Our last two next-big-things at QB were Gilbert and Heard. And then they weren't.

In history Morenz and Dodge were going to be IT. For different reasons neither left a mark.

Across the various boards it seems a given by posters that Buechele will kill it and it just doesn't work out that way frequently.

But, here's hoping.

What a lot of people are overlooking is that in the spring game, Buechele faced a very vanilla defense. Much more vanilla than any defense that he would take the field against this fall.
