If I'm an offensive player, and I watched that debacle last night, tell me again why I'd want to come here? Nine months to work and get better since three straight crushing defeats, one being Arkansas ... ARKANSAS!!!!! ... and we score 3 points! Two things are blatantly clear today: 1. Tyrone Swoopes should have been moved to tight end after the bowl game. 2. Watson is a terrible OC and should have been let go after the bowl game. At least Mack had the guts to fire Diaz quickly. What say you, Charlie? If Watson can't see that Heard has more athleticism than Swoopes, you have to wonder how this guy has been a college coach this long.

Charlie will be here for 4 years and only 4 years if this continues. Texas won't fire him with more than a year left on his contract. Charlie needs to cut ties with Watson and go find an OC with Texas ties or Texas A&M is seriously really about to own this state.

Because you see Buechele and Ehlinger are coming?

(I hope they look at this as more impt than that game)

Who is going to coach the Quarterbacks if Shawn Watson gets fired ? A GA ? That's one of the issues with this. And believe me , I want Watson's luggage packed and him head back to southern illinois.

They can demote him ,but do you want a disgruntled coach on your staff for the rest of the year ?

Imo, Heard will be starting no later than the Cal game. He will probably take over for good during Rice. Also, Locksley is most likely better than both of them. He has good arm, can move well, and has a high QB IQ (been studying football his entire life because of his dad). I love coaches kids, especially OC kids. He was taught the nuances of studying film, seeing coverages and more.

I like Merrick to.. played private school ball but he has a live arm. Needs to get his lower body more involved when he throws. Was tutored by Kevin Murray.

He could develop into a real nice QB if he stays at Texas and puts on some good weight.

Solid athlete as well.

As somebody who had to drive through Southern Illinois in my move from Texas to Chicago, I think it's wrong to wish southern Illinois on anyone.

I think Locksley is a good year or two removed from starting at QB. The kid has some intangibles to work on. I really like him as a future product but he won't be competing with Heard anytime soon. Even the Coaching Staff suggested he was distant from the 2nd QB spot. Honestly, I'm really looking forward to 2017. We'll see how Locksley, Merrick and Heard deal with Buechele and Ehlinger breathing down their necks.

Depends on what offense they are running next year. Some offenses are easier to run than others.

Hopefully we are running a kicked up version of Traylors offense at Gilmer next year or we hired a guy like Phil Longo.

I completely agree. Heard should finish this year out with Swooped as the primary backup. Locksley is smart, but his body and arm strength just aren't there yet.

Also, I live in southern Illinois (outside St. Louis, but it's technically southern illinois) so please don't send Watson back here. Funny thing, my son is looking at SIU-Carbondale for college and playing ball.

Longo getting hired as the OC at Texas wouldn't be anything less than shocking. He has a good work history but I don't think FCS Offensive Coordinators find themselves getting promoted straight into an FBS Offensive Coordinator position right away. I'd say the same thing about Traylor but given he's already been with the program, it's far more likely that he'd get the promotion before we hired Longo.

I could see Wickline getting the solo OC duties. Or Norvell receiving a promotion to Co-OC with Wickline. Longo has been impressive in his time at the FCS level and I could understand why an FBS team would include him on their staff. But any team that did so would bring him in as a QB coach first and then allow him the opportunity to prove his worth.

The drive from St. Louis to Chicago is one of the more brutal trips I've experienced. Farm land...farm land...ci--farm land with a gas station.
