Quick Thoughts on Texas's win over Baylor

A win against TCU/Tech will do very little to our RPI.

The point of beating TCU/Tech has nothing to do with RPI, it's getting to that 20th win. Could Texas get in with 19 wins, maybe so. Getting that 20th win is still important IMO ( a lot of people use that 20th win as a benchmark for tournament teams). Not only that finishing 3-1 as opposed to 2-1 looks much better on the resume.
how could it NOT hurt our Rpi? I think fans put a lot of stock in 20. No idea if the committee does.
Either way it'll be moot when okie lite beats Tcu tonight. You'll get your extra game then.

This late in the season wins against mediocre/bad teams do very little to your RPI, especially on a neutral court. The only way you see big bumps in the RPI is if 1) you lose to a bad team or 2) you beat a very good team. You saw a 9 spot jump in our RPI after beating the #8 RPI team in the country in Baylor. Losing to Tech/TCU would be bad for our RPI, but a win will do very little either way.

The way I see it if we can't beat TCU/Tech we don't deserve to make the tournament. Give me that extra game so we can get to 20 wins. I understand your perspective though.

Scott Drew:

“Texas is one of those conference teams where their conference record isn’t indicative about how good they are. A couple bounces one way and it would look a lot different. I don’t think there is any team in the country that doesn’t think they’re not a tournament team.â€

Iowa is looking good to beat Indiana on the road. That's fairly big for Texas. That should solidify a 3rd top 50 RPI win for Texas. Indiana might have a little work to do now in order to make the tournament.

Iowa beats Indiana on the road. Good result for Texas, that probably solidifies 3 top 50 RPI wins.

More "bubblish" results that should help Texas tonight.

Dayton beats Rhode Island. Rhode Island should be done.

Florida beats A&M. Man that's a horrible loss for A&M, Florida is #83 in RPI. A&M has 2 wins against a fringe top 50 team (LSU #45 in RPI) and that's it. They should clearly be on the bubble, they have nothing on the resume. A&M better be rooting for LSU to win out because that's all they have on the resume. A&M will probably be around #45 in RPI after it's updated.

Like I said above, Iowa beating Indiana helps on several levels. 1) We now have 3 RPI top 50 wins solidified. 2) Indiana might be in trouble now in terms of making the tournament.

A&M dropped more than I expected, now #48 in RPI.

@mettaworldmark Source close to the team told me both Angel Rodriguez & Sheldon McClellan will not play tonight vs. Pitt

Sounds like Rodriguez broke his wrist. You can stick a fork in Miami.

Fwiw Lunardi still has us out and aggy as a 10. Updated today.

👎
Not surprising. Lunardi is pretty good at picking who makes the tournament but he's horrible at picking the seeds. There's no way A&M should be a 10 right now. Lunardi IMO is too reactionary when it comes to seeding. He bases it entirely too much on current trends instead of the overall resume (which is why 20 some bracketologists were more accurate then him last year).

Jerry Palm has both Texas and A&M in the play in game. That's about where I would have both teams right now.

According to bracket matrix Texas is in the tournament in 25/40 brackets. After tonight, we will be in most brackets. A bunch of bubble games tonight so some teams are going to be knocked out.

Tennessee up 15 on LSU in Baton Rouge with 9 minutes left. Wow.

LSU is about to play itself out of the tournament against a bad team. Also, this will kill A&M's resume. A&M is about to have 0 RPI top 50 wins.

Wow, Tennessee beats LSU on the road. That's a very good result for Texas.

LSU is probably a last 4 team in now. A&M now has absolutely nothing on their resume, 0 top 50 RPI wins.

Every SEC team has a huge resume. ESPN runs college sports, and they love the SEC.

at some that talking point will be too stupid even for the Internet. Evidently we're not there yet. ESPN has consistently said the big 12 is the strongest basketball league and that the sec is mediocre. Try listening.

Pitt loses to Miami. Purdue loses to Michigan State.

Several more bubble teams going down tonight. A couple more chances for bubble losses tonight.

A&M has two wins against RPI top 75 teams, and no wins against RPI top 50 teams. If they get into the tournament we need to cut teams.
