Quick Thoughts as Texas falls to Iowa State

I believe they don't because consistently this team has failed to produce in big situations.

Most of the teams have at least won in critical situations. Texas only has once but no bad losses. I don't find that impressive
So only teams that have produced in big situations should make the tournament?

Why is that your only criteria for making the tournament?

If that is the criteria then there's a good chance that you won't have 64 teams in the tournament.

68 actually and no, there aren't really 68 deserving teams. but since that's how many they invite we're as deserving as the others being discussed as bubbles.

Decent results so far for Texas.

Wisconsin beats Michigan. Which means there's only one more team in the Big 10 that could potentially steal a bid (Penn State). I think we want Penn State to beat another bubble team tonight though in Purdue. A Purdue win wouldn't be horrible because it would eliminate the last potential bid stealer in the Big 10.

SMU beats Eastern Carolina. The top seed in the AAC is still alive and another bid stealer is eliminated.

Davidson with a buzzer beater to beat La Salle. Another bid stealer eliminated and the top seed in the A10 is still alive.

Purdue beats Penn State. A Purdue loss might have put them on the bubble, but at least now all bid stealers are eliminated from the Big 10.

VCU beats Richmond. Another bubble is burst. Richmond should be done, and more help for Texas. That's actually a fairly big result. I thought Richmond had a chance to steal the bid in the A10 if not get into the tournament with a couple wins.

Wow, Auburn beats LSU. The SEC is a $#@! show.

LSU was a last 4 bye in Lunardi's bracket. They will be headed to Dayton at best now. They have some nice wins but some horrible losses.....won't even be a top 50 RPI team. Interesting resume. That also means A&M has 0 RPI top 50 wins on the year. A&M was already done but that puts the end of any discussion of them making the tournament.

Texas is almost off the last 4 in line now in Lunardi's bracket. Texas, LSU, Ole Miss and Indiana are the last 4 in.

Late that day after Auburn beat A&M, a sports radio show mentioned Auburn won just 4 SEC games all year, prior to the tournament.

Texas is getting so much help.

Boise State with a bad loss to Wyoming. That might very well push Texas ahead of Boise State. Boise State only has 4 top 100 RPI wins and their RPI will be around 50. They were an 11 seed in a lot of the brackets before this loss.

Arizona beats UCLA.

As long as there aren't multiple bid thieves we should be in the tournament.

Texas got some RPI help tonight from UCONN too. Now we just have to hope they don't steal a bid. Pretty incredible how much help we are getting with all these bubble teams.

Conferences left with the potential to steal bids.

Southland: SFA vs Sam Houston in the conference finals. If SFA loses they might get an at large bid, but that's probably unlikely. It would be best if SFA just wins the tournament so that's not a possibility.

Mountain West: Wyoming will play the winner of San Diego State/Colorado State in the finals. We need San Diego State/Colorado State to win that game.

A10-Davidson, VCU, Dayton and Rhode Island in the semis. Just need Rhode Island to lose.

AAC-Temple, SMU, UCONN and Tulsa in the semifinals. We need Temple or SMU to win the conference tournament.

SEC-Kentucky, Auburn, Arkansas, and looking like Georgia in the semis. Need Auburn to lose.

IMO the AAC is the only conference where there will be a bid thief. Maybe in the Mountain West.

Texas is no longer in the last 4 in according to Lunardi. Like I thought, Boise State fell below us.

The tournament sucks complete ass when Texas is not in it. It appears they will make it and I will be able to gamble and lose a considerable amount of money on them again this season. I'll drink to that!

So ISU beats Texas on a buzzer beater to prevent OT, having not led the whole game til the winning shot.

Then beats OU by the same 2-pt margin and almost the same score at 67-65, with OU missing a final shot attempt.

ISU was down 11 early in that game.

Will be interesting if ISU can stymie Kansas and win the tournament. Texas is not really that bad but can't muster the mental focus or get past coaching decisions late in a game.

104.9 FM (Austin) was beside themselves all day today over Miles Turner not playing (I think the final 10 minutes) and making one of two shots the whole game in limited play. What's with that? With a 10 pt lead you'd think definitely have him in the game blocking shots if nothing else. Believe also Texas did not make a field goal the final 7 minutes. Maybe I mis-heard that.
