The Aggies have moved past the University of Texas Longhorns, again? The poll numbers are in! According to the Dallas Morning News' Chris Hummer, in his Nov. 13 blog, "The Longhorns have the biggest athletic budget in college sports, but Texas A&M seems to have Texas beat in terms of popularity." The results stem from the organization Public Policy Polling, which surveyed sports fans. Two years ago, the Longhorns had the lead, with 23% of Texas sports fans favoring the burnt orange brand of sports, compared to 15% who were faithful to the maroon and white. That's old news now, because recent poll numbers show that 22% of fans claim the Aggies as their favorite team, and the Longhorns bring in a respectable 20%. Not to be forgotten, Hummer noted, University of Houston garned 10%, Baylor pulled 8%, Texas Tech pulled 5%, TCU claimed 4%, UTEP weighed in at 3% and the smaller SMU mustered 2% among the others.
