Anyone else have problems this year with their gifts not getting where they were supposed to?

I had paid for an overnight shipment of a large ham to my sister's. Was supposed to ship on the 20th. Still has not arrived at her place.

I had 11 gifts purchased from Amazon that Amazon assured would be able to be shipped in time - still not arrived. On Amazon during the Christmas season, when you start to make a purchase, they will alert you to whether or not your gift will make it to it's destination for Christmas. All of mine were given the ok.

WTH was UPS thinking? If you want to side-step them and use someone else, who is it? Fed-Ex?

I read today that both UPS and FedEX had trouble this year with packages that were supposed to arrive on time. They article said that Amazon was offering to refund shipping prices if you were charged or give you some sort of rebate or gift card if it was free shipping. You may want to check with Amazon to see what they are offering due to the delays.

The ice storm caused a real problem over a 5 state area. I believe UPS even had a 1000 drivers come in from Ca to try and get everything done. They also hired 100's of Uhauls as well. They indicated it would be a long shot if they got everything delivered on time. Every carrier was affected and it also cascaded throughout the country as well.

Everyone seems to be having issues with UPS as of late. I posted one of my chat exchanges with them on the Far West board.

I think it's pretty much a hit or miss. Still haven't received everything in yet from an order made nearly two weeks ago. I made an additional order on the 21st and had it on my door step at 9pm on Christmas eve.

Luckily everything we ordered arrived at its correct destination before Christmas. I did hear that UPS stopped tracking packages for some reason, I have no idea why but I had friends tell me that they tried to track a package and the system told them it was unable to locate the item even though they had a shipping confirmation and tracking number. When they called UPS they were told they were not tracking all packages.

...weather, if always a factor as per shipping. thousands across usa without power...

As others have stated, weather played a role in some areas of the country but according to a top of the hour news break on the radio yesterday, UPS admitted they under hired for the Christmas season. And FedEx had no comment.

Had some goodies show up yesterday on our doorstep in SW GA.

By in large, however, I was fortunate that most got where it was supposed to be when it needed to be there.
