i've been a member for almost 15 years. i don't wish ill on them, but i spend less and less time over there. i'm sure i'll still stay a member just to have the link to it and an occasional post, but in my view the mods have abdicated the site to the lowest common denominator over there while forgetting their silent base, and the quality of the average poster has suffered mightily.
its a shame, but i suppose its sort of the inevitable problem that occurs when you build something up, get distracted and lose focus. sound familiar? a bit ironic in my view, but ketch has suffered for several years from mack brown malaise. get comfortable, lose focus, forget who your base is and voila......demise.

the mods over here pay attention. it's a cautionary tale. one to be studied, and remembered, not forgotten as the site grows.

I cancelled my sub over there after almost 14 years for mostly the same reasons.

Although the biggest thing for me was the Ketch worship and the fact it became less about the Longhorns and more about the personality brand he was trying to build. I could care less about his taste in music and opinions on tv and movies when he gave Longhorn updates. And I really, really got tired of all the Miley Cyrus posts or other topics that were just dedicated to his online personality. The events that occurred around the Shuttlesworth imbroglio was the last straw.

When I cancelled they first tried to offer two free months, and then offered four free months, and then tried to convince me that I would surely want to stay through NSD. I simply told them no and that I was immediately done with the Geoff Ketchum persona.

To their credit they gave me a refund back to the previous week when it auto-renewed. It's a shame since I will miss some of the other contributors and of course a lot of the posters. Geoff has the right to run his site however he wants, of course. It just wasn't for me anymore.

Guys, it's not just OBs that is down. It's message boards across the entire Rivals network.

This is a MAJOR screwup by Rivals/Yahoo.

Yeah, Rivals/Yahoo are still using Micky Mouse servers and 1990's message boards technology. Fortunately the mobile app is still working.

Do you have to pay for the app. I am a member and have not found it.

Funniest thing I have read all day. By the way did anyone watch the LHN recruiting deal. Boy was that Mickey Mouse stuff. Poor Ricky must not have read his notes on the teams recruits. Nice to see some old players. Dave thomas will always be one of my favorite longhorns

Slim, I agree with you completely. My annual subscription over there is up and I didn't renew, although like you I may re-sign just to go over there from time to time. I am glad that you steered me over here because so far I really like it.

As for OBs, I think that in an effort to grow his "kingdom" and try to be the Howard Stern (King of All Media) in the college sports arena, he has ignored the very foundation that his brand is built on. And it shows.

When I look for my UT "fix" I'm actually looking for two things. 1) a source of information on everything UT and 2) a community of guys I enjoy "talking" to. Those two things do not have to come from the same place although it's better if they do. I've always been happy with the information part of OBs but even more so the camaraderie of the message boards. But that's now gone and I found myself going there less and less for that, which kept me away from the information aspect too.

Making it worse I guess is that I just don't particularly like Ketch's writing. I am by no means a grammar Nazi or even a very good writer but his style just grates me. For a "journalist" it is really not very good...at all. Add to that, that I'm subjected to more and more of the "personal" Ketch (as someone else mentioned) instead of reporting and information and it's a no brainer for me to look elsewhere. I just don't care about his opinions on general subjects because I usually think they are shallow and not well considered. And I could really care less about his taste in music or his Miley Cyrus love and respect for the way she "plays the game" of popularity (again, the words shallow and naïve pop up)

Same here, I like the guys and Taylor with the videos. Unfortunately the community has went downhill with little to no control. You add the very old software and it has just become "less" than it should be.

I'll probably stay on there for the updates for a while, unless they just don't get the server issues fixed. This has been going on for far too long.

I have been extremely happy with Horn Sports. While you still get arguments from both sides, they are generally more mature. Have a few that like to, border-line, troll. However, the Mods do a good job.

Plus, good stuff is always coming as this site is really just getting started.

I definitely recognize the handle at OB. If it's too personal forget it, but how did Ketch jerk you around? I've been a member for 10 years and have never had any contact with the guy. Just trying to figure out how something like that can begin.

I'll give you one example. ElMahico posted something on OB. I thought it was great. I sent him an email asking him to also post it on 247.

Ketch found out about the email and banned me from OB for 6 weeks for "undermining" his business.

I wasn't recruiting EM. He already had a sub at 247 at the time.
