New Coach , New QB, New Defense, New Direction!

I hate to see donta leave but i definitely understand and dont blame him.

He needs to go to the nfl and get paid. It was amazing getting to watch our lowest rated recruit coming out of high school show the nation that we were all wrong about him and do something that very few running backs could do in football.

Didnt he sit out a game as well?

matt, btw, I agree on the head coach. The rest of it, not so much. I think you are overreacting a little.

Hook 'em!

I was a little emotional yesterday when i posted , but I still think a new Coach will want to and need to have quick success and that might need to start at the QB position. Buechele does not have enough arm strength to drive the ball into the middle of the field and to the far side of the field,  he has to put a much higher arch on the ball which delays its arrival  and creates a higher chance of a turnover.  If say Herman does come in and makes a change at QB would you question or be disappointed?  When you look at the Houston offense alot of it is based upon the QB being able to run it looks to me and that is just not  Buechele.  Of course all of this will depend upon the next Coach and the offense he wants to run. In term of Malik ,  I don't think he leaves unless he is willing to sit out a year but I do love it when he rushes the passer and just think he would be great kinda like Derrick Thomas who played for Alabama and Kansas City Chiefs as a LB and Defensive End and was a great pass rusher that is just my opinion.

Once Texas gets a better QB, they will not give Buechele a second thought. Look at the type of QB Herman had at Houston. Look at Barrett at OSU. Hell, look at the QB for Alabama. There are plenty of QBs available out of Texas high schools that can run Herman's offense immediately. The only reason Shane is considered great is because he starts for Texas. He couldn't start in front of Mahomes at Tech, Hill at TCU (and that is saying a lot), Mayfield at OU, Mason Rudolph at OSU etc, etc, etc. It would not surprise me if Shane transferred. I have nothing against the kid personally. He is not ready for prime time. He was the only one who fully grasped Gilbert's offense.

He grasped it quickly because he ran a similar offense in high school. I wouldn't be surprised if Heard gets a long look in the off season. And depending on how Ellingher recovers from his injuries, there's a chance a true freshman starts at qb 2 consecutive years

Exactly. It is becoming more apparent that Gilbert knew how risky it was to accept his position last year. He almost had to start a kid that had run the offense before. Now, the slate is clean. Let the best quarterback play. If it is Buechele, so be it.

Good lord, do any of you remember Colt McCoy? Shane showed everything Colt did as a freshman and then some. Give him a chance to grow up for peke's sake.

Oh and Colt had full extra year on the bench to soak things up.

No way the kid should stay... For selfish reasons it would be nice if he did bu the needs to go get paid. He gave UT every bit of him. Great kid. Wish him great success.

Voice of reason...Thank you. I understand why the media has been so hard on the UT fanbase... First sign of not being the greatest thing since sliced bread and people are done. Shane is still a child, a child that showed way more good than bad and people want to trash him? How is this even real life? No talk about him getting better or developing him... Just shit the kid down the drain. No supporting the kid, just on to the next one... So ridiculous. Hook em!

Gilbert is and was horrible... He called the worst games Ive seen in a long time. Not once did I watch a game and see any sort of a game plan other than wear Foreman down. If that didnt work Gilbert had nothing. Good riddance to him... He is not good, at all and was wholly a waste of money.

Gilbert's play calling at times was terrible but you can hardly say he was a terrible OC.  He had one season to implement a new offense!

Under him we had Foreman gain 2000 yards for only the second time history.  Now Foreman deserves a lot of that credit, but still to say Gilbert sucked is too much.

Our offense went from dead LAST in FBS to #21 with a freshman QB.  In all fairness Shane wasn't the same the last few games and makes me wonder if he is hurt.  His throws were not as accurate as they were earlier in the year.

You guys forget what it was like when we couldn't even get a first down last year.

Gilbert play calling at times was seriously bad and baffling. Trying to run the ball on 3rd and 19 and throwing on 3rd and 3 was frustrating.  Yardage and stats isn't everything but we couldnt buy a first down with Watson.

I wouldn't be surprised if he goes in the last half of the first round. Certainly in the second. The running back position is hard to garner a first-round slot.

I get your point... and dont disagree wholly. Im not saying it was all bad but I don't think Gilbert is good... His play calling was nothing short of "baffling." Week in and week out he was incredibly predictable and at the first sign of resistance his game plans went to shit. I do give the vast majority of the credit to Foreman and the monster he is... Gilbert seemed much more of a hindrance than a benefit. I do understand he only had one year but this isn't his first year coaching football and it damn sure looked, a lot of the time, like it was.

For gods sake he threw out of the 18 Wheeler package 2 times this year(possibly 3). He stayed with a package and made no adjustments to it when he was seeing ZERO success with it. That in itself is completely baffling. Dude has zero creative ability. I wanna say I saw the same 5-7 plays run every single game. hahaha If it didnt hurt so much it would be comical.

Gilbert was an improvement over Watson but that isnt saying much.

We shall see what Herman brings.  It will be his offense regardless of who the OC is.

I want to know if there is a chance herman can salvage or recruiting class this year

I think that winning those already on the roster will ensure the recruiting class stays together... Our team has been hot on the recruiting trail. I think only their words will quell concerns. Just my opinion...

The only reason Shane is considered great is because he starts for Texas.
I disagree. Ash, McCoy, Swoopes and Heard were all met with a ton of criticism and questioning. It has nothing to do with the school or fan base.

Patrick Mahomes - JuniorKenny Hill - Junior

Baker Mayfield - Junior

Mason Rudolph - Junior

You're comparing a true freshman to upper class men with multiple years of college level experience, some of whom had to transfer after losing their jobs due to needing more prep time. Sound familiar?

It would not surprise me if Shane transferred. I have nothing against the kid personally. He is not ready for prime time. He was the only one who fully grasped Gilbert's offense.
Again, he is a true freshman. I think you expected a little too much out of a kid who is fresh out of high school. There is no indication whatsoever that he'll transfer as he's the best QB on the roster. It would take a magnificent showing from Ehlinger.
