Well said, Kemo Sabe. I don't think anyone really understands how badly the Big 12 was hurt by losing Nebraska and aggy. Taking the emotion out of it and throwing the cold light of economics on it, the conference lost a beaucoup of money, losing those two. Very simply they filled stadiums and TV viewership. Why does the Big 12 need to expand in a cord-cutting, ala carte programming world? ESPN is losing money and none of the conference networks nor LHN will ever reach their initial financial projections. Who's gonna pay for the Big 12 to add two G5 schools? Just playing devil's advocate here.![]()
We've talked Big 12 expansion to death and nothing ever happens.
Unless something catastrophic happens, the Big 12 cannot add anyone of any consequence. Maybe BYU...maybe.
And, I'll say it again, UT is NOT EVER leaving the Big 12 unless it is financially beneficial for it to do so. But there is even more to it than just the money. It's the power. The power that UT currently enjoys in the Big 12. When we speak, the conference listens and, by God, does what we tell it to do. In what other conference would we have that kind of stroke?
All of the above are simply my opinions, even though I have enough inside to know how the big boys think. So, once again, if everyone understands that UT will not and has not ever taken into consideration what the average fan wants, the easier it will be for said fans to get an idea what the state of Texas flagship will do in the future.
