***National Signing Day Thread***

I just saw UT is interested in Vernon Adams per his high school along with UCLA. That would be a big signing consider our inexperience at QB next year.
I think I read that the HS Coach said the current plan is to make a decision by Monday, February 9th.

He already had a great visit to Oregon.

Unless that schedule changes… UT is out.

But we know that Charlie Strong will be pushing for a visit.

247's top recruiter in conference

In most cases if you can really recruit you can succeed anywhere as a college coach, and Brian Jean-Mary proved that notion to be true. Now that his first full cycle on the job at Texas is complete, the Longhorn linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator is taking home the honor of being 247Sports Big 12 Recruiter of the Year for 2015.

Jean-Mary, who came with Charlie Strong from Louisville, finished with 73.39 points. The biggest fish he landed for the Longhorns was Mesquite Poteet five-star linebacker Malik Jefferson, but Jean-Mary was also the lead recruiter for Top247 athlete DeAndre McNeal, Under Armour All-America linebacker Anthony Wheeler and four-star linebacker Cameron Townsend.

Jean-Mary edged out his co-worker, defensive backs coach Chris Vaughn for the honor. Vaughn had a tremendous cycle in his own right as the lead recruiter for national Top100 cornerback duo Holton Hill and Kris Boyd, as well as being the point man in the recruitment of U.S. Army All-American Devonaire Clarington, four-star cornerback Davante Davis and Under Armour All-America safety DeShon Elliott.

Jean-Mary and Vaughn, who spent the 2013 season at Memphis before arriving at Texas, finished seventh and ninth respectively in the 247Sports Recruiter Rankings for the 2015 cycle. Texas joined Alabama and Florida State as the only schools with multiple assistants who finished in the top-10 in the national rankings.

“I think of our coaching staff and what it meant to them to ensure that we had an outstanding class,†Strong said during his press conference Wednesday. “I think they took it personal because I think there was a lot written about them in the beginning where some people said they couldn't recruit and they were losing all these guys.â€

Jean-Mary and Vaughn won more battles than they lost in 2015, momentum that hopefully carries into the 2016 cycle for the Longhorns.

Adams wants to start.  He wants to showcase his skills for the league and improve his draft standing -- this is the whole point of transferring to a P5 school

As intriguing as Oregon might be for someone with his skill set, it offers no guarantee of starting to him

If we add Merrick to a schollie, i think we will need to drop 3 to get to 85

Not sure the status of Huhn though ....

3 is all but guaranteed by June. grades, behavior, wanting to get on the field somewhere else, injuries, etc.

Last I heard on Huhn was that he was going to give it another try this season. If he reinjures, he'll likely stop playing football.

Texas interested in possible Eastern Washington QB transfer Vernon Adams
"..............So when will Adams decide about his future? Eastern Washington head coach Beau Baldwin said on Wednesday that he hopes a meeting will happen Monday and expects his quarterback to make a decision soon thereafter.

With the Horns set to hold an all-out quarterback competition this spring between the only two scholarship quarterbacks on campus -- Tyrone Swoopes and Jerrod Heard -- speculation has run rampant that head coach Charlie Strong and his staff will pursue further options by evaluating the graduate transfer market.

Asked about the situation on Wednesday, Strong couldn't really say much about specific players.

"When you talk about the grad market, you don't know because they have to contact us," he said. "You really don't know because you don't know what's really out there right now in the grad market. There's got to be someone that's going to fit your needs."

Since Strong and his staff can't speak to Adams directly right now, his high school coach is serving as the intermediary in taking recent calls from the Bruins and Longhorns.

But despite coming from the FCS level, Adams certainly fits those needs for Texas even though he's undersized. His average of 9.0 yards per offensive play and 10.28 yards per passing attempt set FCS records in 2013, as well did his 11 games of 300 yards or more of total offense and 10 games with at least 300 passing yards. In all, he established 19 school records, eight Big Sky Conference marks and six FCS records.

He also threw for 55 touchdowns in 2013, an incredible number at any level. While many graduate transfer quarterbacks leave in an attempt to find playing time, Adams is different because he's produced at the highest levels of the FCS..............."

Thanks for posting.

Let's see…

  • 1st team All-state DB
  • 7 interceptions Senior year
  • 3.75 GPA
  • #21 Class rank
  • Offers from Stanford and Yale

We'll never know how Jamile Johnson would've turned out as a member of DBU, but we might just end up thanking him for decommitting… and opening the door for PJ Locke.

I seem to remember another underrated Beaumont area HS 3 star DB that turned out pretty good for the Horns… and the Seahawks.

Interesting. ...
Unfortunately, I checked the Oregon board and doesn't look like he's interested in checking out UT or UCLA. It looks like he's going to announce on Monday if he's going to Oregon or staying at Eastern Washington and the  expectation is Oregon.

Best thing for UT is for Vernon to delay his announcement and  take a visit to Austin Texas. We get him on campus and we have a chance, also the only QB with experience he would compete  with is Swoopes.

I would have preferred that we had acted quicker, more decisively and with more purpose with Vernon

In 2014 vs. Washington, he threw 7 TDs (most UW has ever allowed in one game)

oh exactly we didnt pursue him as hard as we wanted to get him..and yes with more purpose to get him we wouldve had a chance..
