***National Signing Day Thread***

Yup, and from reading tweets posted here and elsewhere, most aggy admit it and have stated "our two year run is over"... which is a reference to aggy claiming a year or two ago that, something to the effect of:  "we run this state".

Well aggy, you had your 15 minutes of fame since your last NC in 1939.

There is a new Sheriff in Austin and the universe is going to come back in balance again.

Let's Ride!!!
and you know something was in my mind too now that i think of it even though jamabo, baker, reed, brossette, mack, and a few other prospects that put texas as finalists it shows  what strong and the stafff can do and strong has been in this rodeo and he isnt afraid of going out of state and push for the best prospects available

Yea, I understand there was some sort of confrontational conversation between he and staff. Thats all it took.

People have been dissing the Jalen Campbell recruit who signed with Sam Houston. I believe he missed most of the year with a tore ACL or some such and just fell of the radar.
Word was that Ramsey de-committed because he and his family were threatening to sue UT over the knee injury he suffered on-campus.  I think that pretty much killed any chance he had of being recruited.

I really hope they keep Kirk Johnson at RB - the more I watch his highlight the more impressed I get at his vision and his feet.  Incredible RB prospect - and its scary to think his ultra-talented brother is on his way here next year.

Stole this from a poster on another site:

Aggay will have to change their #wrts to We Almost Ran This State = #warts.
Three SEC divisio programs have better classes than aggie.

Two cross-division SEC teams have better classes.

Inside the state, the Flagship Universty .. TEXAS.. had a better class.

This after three years in the SEC for a&m.

Not how it was supposed to work out. Zebras do not change stripes.

Or as Coach Dennis Green put it... "They are who we thought they were!!"

The loss of Gentry to Michigan still stings.  I don't care if the offense was changing, I'm suprised a long term commit couldn't be swayed as "spread" offenses don't always highlight a QB who runs a 4.5.  UT has a major issue at the position unless Heard is progressing much better than reported.  There isn't a top rated QB in the state for next year on a national scale and the Desoto QB verbally committed to Texas Tech after UT showed interest.

I'm a little bit suprised that a game ready QB hasn't been brought in from the JUCO ranks or a senior who has graduated from another school.  It's vital for this staff to improve the overall record next season to prove to recruits that the arrow is pointed up.

That can still happen unless we concede a 2015 scholarship to Merrick

I'm still ignorantly praying that the staff will reach out to Vernon Adams.

The staff was focused on the 2015 class. There was no reason to rush, especially since it would have impacted numbers that were fluctuating by the hour.

They also needed to wait and see who goes public with a desire to transfer. There will be a couple of players that go through Spring practice at their current school that either don't like the way the depth chart looks, or decide the grass is greener elsewhere.

In April/May the candidate pool will be much different than it was in January.

on the classes

Greg Tepper: Boy, that’s a tough one. There’s a reasonable argument on both sides for Texas and Texas A&M. If you think Texas has the best class, you look at the linebacker corps — getting Malik Jefferson, Anthony Wheeler and Cameron Townsend represents arguably the three best linebackers in the state, and the best position group of any class in Texas — and the late nabs of Ryan Newsome and Chris Warren, plus flipping star DB PJ Locke. If you think Texas A&M has the best class, you look at the star power — getting both Daylon Mack and Kyler Murray — not to mention the outrageous defensive line crop where the rich get richer. I hate to avoid the question, but I think it’s a toss-up; both schools have reason to believe that they’re the No. 1 class in Texas.

 biggest impact next year

EJ Holland: This is a great question. In my opinion, there are a handful of quarterbacks that could be asked to be the man from Day 1. If you look over at Texas A&M, Allen quarterback Kyler Murray, arguably the greatest high school football player this state has ever seen, will push sophomore Kyle Allen for the starting gig. Sure, Allen had his moments down the stretch, but Murray is a rare and special talent. He has the potential to be Johnny Manziel 2.0. Out in Baylor, Stephenville quarterback Jarrett Stidham will compete with Seth Russell for the starting job. At SMU, Hewitt Midway quarterback Ben Hicks might be the favorite to start over Matt Davis. Chad Morris couldn’t stop raving about Hicks at his signing day press conference. If these signal-callers don’t make an impact next year, they will in the very near future. Another guy to keep an eye on is Gladewater defensive tackle Daylon Mack, who signed with Texas A&M. He was by far the best interior defensive lineman in the 2015 class.

on Newsome --

Greg Tepper Aledo wide receiver Ryan Newsome’s recruitment will go down as one of the most bizarre in recent history. To catch everyone up, here’s a brief overview: Newsome held a commitment ceremony back on January 23, an often agonizingly drawn-out event that saw him seemingly hesitate when faced with the actual decision (30 minutes into the ceremony, but I digress). Newsome committed — albeit hesitantly — to UCLA. Then, on National Signing Day, Newsome flipped from UCLA and signed with the other school he was considering at the commitment ceremony, Texas…rendering that entire ceremony essentially moot. It’s a bizarre situation, and maybe pressure had something to do with it. Ryan Newsome is an outrageous talent, a guy who can make an immediate impact on any team that he goes to…maybe he was just tired of having people talk in his ear, tired of reading about himself, tired about getting speculated about, afraid of letting people down. Who knows? But perhaps Newsome is a stark reminder that, in the end, these are just kids, making the biggest decisions of their young lives. Maybe Newsome is a reminder to cut them a little slack.

speaking of Vernon Adams wasnt Oregon waiting on his decision ??? he did take a visit up there recently

Greg Tepper: "...not to mention the outrageous defensive line crop where the rich get richer."

Huh? I must have been asleep cuz I don't remember a "crop." What am I missing?

Aggie defense has a lot of problems - but the DL isn't one of them.  They just added the best interior talent in this years class to play next to the best recruit in the nation.  Mack, Keke, and Lockhart are definitely a 'crop'.
