National Signing Day 2016 Thread

DKR is going to louder than it has been in a long time come Sept 3rd. Especially if the offense looks promising at the spring game. How is Notre Dame offense supposed to be?
Well I know they'll have Malik Zaire back but they're losing that fast receiver Fulton

"Strong has tentacles everywhere-

Dontavious Jackson came to Texas on an unofficial visit the weekend before signing day and came with a handler.  Strong knew after that visit Texas wasn't getting Jackson based on other conversations Strong had providing him information about the handler.

Strong also knew two days before signing day Stephon Taylor would be going to South Carolina because of information Strong had gotten from ties he had in the SEC, including ties from when Strong coached under Holtz at South Carolina."

They will be very good on O lost some guys but brought a lot back. They are losing a ton on D though so we will put up points on them.

" .... Waiting in the recruiting game Strong has always believed in not using weekends during Texas' football season for official visits --

1)   because he likes to focus all of his energies on his current team and getting his players ready for the game that weekend, and

2)  because he likes to evaluate tape of recruits during their senior season.

Chris Daniels and Zach Shackelford are two prime examples of guys who didn't jump off the film during their junior seasons.  Daniels needed to lose some weight.  He had gotten well over 300 pounds as a junior and didn't play that well. (Texas also needed to see that Daniels was on course academically in his senior year).   Shackelford also was still developing.

Both had very good senior seasons, and Texas moved in on both.  Shackelford also had some reservations about Joe Wickline after Wickline addressed him for the very first time at a Texas camp as, "Hey, fat ass."   So Wickline moving on certainly helped Texas' chances with Shackelford, who told me he would have gone to K-State if Wickline was still the O-line coach.

In the end,  Daniels said, if you don't want to go to Texas, don't let Strong on your couch....."

I dont see Perkins back at RT.  He was not very good there.  But played well at OG.

I hope Buck Wang steps up at RT.  If not then we have Nickelson or Delance.or Hodges.

Center is interesting.  To me, Shack looks like he can play and he is an EE which should helps alot.  But we just have to wait and see.  We know Vahe does not want to play there.  Not sure about Perkins (would prefer to just leave him alone where he is happy and productive at RG -- but that means someone has to step up). Center is one domino that once it falls, could ripple through the line.  Maybe someone will surprise us and step up? Like Cuney or Rodriguez?
Didn't Cuney play center in high school?

I bet Gilbert and Mattox are lookin at our offensive weapons like it's their first time at a buffet

Hammy claims Briles negatively recruited the crap out of Strong/Texas to Brandon Jones on his OV
Music to my ears!  Briles needs to tread lightly if he paid attention to the Texas war room which was televised.  The incumbent freshmen were an intricate part of the machine that was recruiting the 2016 class and you can bet your ass these incoming freshmen will be doing the same thing.  He didn't influence a kid that now knows exactly what Art is willing to do in order to win a kid over.   Browning, come on down...

Not often Hamm gets a "music to my ears" around here

LOL

Part of a Chris Hummer review --

"...... Strong, who admitted the program needed “positive vibes†after a down season, opted to not take many commitments early in the cycle. The reasoning for that, he said, was twofold: First, in an era where decommiting and recommitting elsewhere is vogue, he did not want to take a player unless he was 100 percent committed to Texas. This meant allowing his priority targets to take all their visits before they decided to make a pledge. “I tell them I don’t need a commitment right now, go visit wherever you want to,†Strong said. “We’re still going to be here.â€

Second, Strong wanted to avoid negative recruiting. Coming off the second sub-par season of his two-year regime, Strong knew his pitches to recruits were susceptible to subterfuge. If he took a highly-ranked commit early on, the chances of that happening only increased. “Usually when (a player) makes a commitment you know who to attack,†Strong said. “With the season we had I didn't want them to attack us."

Instead, Strong and his staff were the aggressors. The Longhorns didn’t negatively recruit – Strong said there’s “no need for that†– but they did hit the road with vigor. Pair that mentality with the push from the current players, and the Longhorns were able to come away with a highly-rated class. Strong said the group, which features at least one take at every position, brings quality depth to the roster. He also said the group’s talent rivals that of his 2015 haul, one that produced three freshman All-Americans and many other contributors in their freshman season. “You have to win football games and then the recruiting season,†Strong said. “Today was a big step for our program."

It also might have proved Strong’s theory correct. The recruiting world took notice of the Longhorns on Wednesday. And if Strong’s being honest, he didn’t mind a bit. “I wanted everyone’s attention on our program, and that’s what we got today,†Strong said."
