My Longterm Concern

With the current problems with our offense, it would be silly to go "hurry up" except in short doses. We need to keep the defense off the field as long as possible. As the offense improves and becomes more consistent, I suspect that the tempo may change a bit as well.

As for recruiting: it appears to me that Strong right now prefers an Alabama like structure of a strong defense and a consistent and varied offense. I don't see Alabama having any trouble recruiting. Saban doesn't run a hurry up spread, either.

We all just have to deal with the fact that the team is what it is right now, and it is going to take time to get to the level we want.

That's true about Saben, however Saben's team does not play in the state that is considered to be the mecca for the Spread Offense.

It will be interesting to see how CS handles the Bears up tempo offense. If we keep it close, think what the future will look like once CS has a couple of his recruiting classes here. I would imagine a lot of Coaches will be watching to see how CS attacks the up tempo and if successful, there will be a lot of copy cats. Hope we bring our A game Saturday.

The biggest worry I would have at this point would be the lack of an identity with this offense (who knows how much the personnel shifts have had in all of this). I've felt like the personnel on this team lend credence to an Auburn/Oklahoma State type of offense being successful. Its an outlier from A&M/Baylor but still puts up lots of points and can grind it out and shorten games like Strong did at Louisville.

As for the offense, it is what it is at this time. As others have said, we probably won't know what we have for another year or so, but we can only hope we see progress each week and be supportive until we get all the right pieces in place. Hopefully the defense will keep us in games until then.
