Can you explain the racist intent? I mean, I read the words and can't for the life of me find racism.

The song was created to be a school song, simply stolen to some extent from a guy who led Confederate forces and taught a class. The term "the eyes of the South are upon you" in itself is not racist. The simple reference to the South is not racist.

I did read a story about this and again, came out scratching my head. If we're going to ban every song ever sung by a bad guy, get ready to say good bye to music in general.

But I'm willing to listen and learn if you've got a good explanation.
SHA, the song was created by racists, to be performed at a racist minstrel show, to the tune of a racist song.  And that is the premise of the the origins of the the school song.

Affirmative. If some Jews thought it was anti-semitic, then their brains failed them. And it is noticeable that you're not trying to explain how it was anti-semitic.

Trump said "I don't need your money" to dozens of groups who weren't Jewish. The truth is – He does not need their money. What a concept! lol

I don't know what Omar said and didn't make the argument you just invented and defeated in one fatal swoop. lol Do you feel better now? lol

I did respond. Trotting out liberal rah rah crap isn't proving anything. Why can't you just put a sentence together that supports your point. Name the time, the speech, I'll do the leg work for you.

Can you do that much?
Hahaha you’re pathetic man. You live in a world were the feelings of people don’t matter. So the fact that a vast amount of African Americans have said that these things were racist, that doesn’t matter. You need a sentence where he said something like I don’t want black guys counting my money, only short guys in yarmulkes.. something like that. You don’t care that 83% of African Americans believe he’s racist?? That doesn’t matter. You’re showing that it doesn’t matter what anyone of my race thinks. You believe what you believe and that’s that. I should have stuck with it but it’s ok I’m back to it. Again from now on... good day sir.

Yes!  Feel free to look up minstrel shows.  The very point of them was for white people to dress in blackface and demean black people.

Here are some interesting things I read in the article you linked to.

There were minstrel troupes consisting of black performers and a number of them had black owners and managers.

The music repertoire featured music by black composers such as James Bland who wrote some 700 songs.

These minstrel shows were the only theatrical medium in which gifted black performers of the period could support themselves.

A few of the larger companies employed both black and white performers.

Hornsup, this is becoming boring. You're refusing to face facts and reject common sense. Nothing I say is going to turn you to something other than CNN-fed nonsense.

Not all Jews are conservative. Not all Jews are liberal. They do not think alike as you apparently expect them to. That in itself is racist (stereotyping). So when you run out here screaming that a Jewish group is upset with Trump, well. . . it's the same group that was upset when he got elected. Nothing new here under the sun. It's neither novel nor unique.

But you expected that to mean something.

Here's a link to an unbiased source – The Times of Israel. Read it and learn something about the subject.

Yes NTG, a lot of black performers have to deal with racism and bigotry in order to attempt to feed their families.  Unfortunately not much has changed...

I’m sorry but none of that means anything. He is a racist. It’s not a “I know it when I see it.” It’s the fact that a vast amount of African Americans have said these things are racist. You can’t tell us no that’s not racist. You don’t get that right. I’m not gonna tell a woman what’s she feels in inappropriate behavior. I’m not gonna tell someone in the LBGTQ community what’s homophobic and not. You’re not gonna tell us what’s ok for us to deem racist. As recent as January of this year, 83% of African Americans said his was a racist. That’s like 30-40 points higher than his approval rating lol. But yeah all of those political stunts you listed.. somehow we don’t believe him. Somehow we can see through the BS.
I respect your opinion. I empathize with hurt and frustration. I never suggested what a definituon should be or what one or any group of individuals should believe. Yet, until there is a agreed upon definition of racism is, how can anyone have open discussion? With that, I wish you a great day.

Thats unfortunate. But there is evil in this world and we'll not see it go away until Revelations unfolds. I don't think I'll be here for that.

The thing is, I see more instances of white racism (racism because I'm white) than I ever see the opposite. It happens whenever I come into contact with low income blacks who don't know me and only recognize that my skin is white.

I don't complain, I don't really care. They've been taught to feel that way or learned to feel that way, somehow.

But racism today works both ways. If I drive down to South Oak Cliff at night, my life is at risk. Why? Well, because I'm white. Where I live, I have no white neighbors and I'm perfectly safe. They are my friends.

Evil comes in all skin colors. Good comes in all skin colors. I'm only interested in being around the Good. The rest is irrelevant to me.

But you told me that you don't judge others.
Did I though?? Show me where I said that.. you said I judge people a lot. I won’t judge someone unless they show me consistent behavior. Like you jumping on other convos involving me when they aren’t concerning you. You’ve done that twice. A pattern is forming. So I can start putting together my opinion of you from there. So if I keep seeing something, I kinda have to make a judgment on it. But nice try.

The story I read said not much more about the author than he attended class at a University bearing the name of Robert E Lee, was taught a class by Lee himself, and took the phrase "The eyes of the South" and turned it into "they eyes of Texas."

The article did not say he then sang the song in blackface at UT with the Texas Cowboys. I don't remember who they said did sing it though.

DBut82, this is important to me, I want to understand. I don't want to see the "Eyes" get tossed unless there is indeed racism buried in the song's past. The school song shouldn't be offensive to a segment of the school's population.

How do we know the author of the "Eyes of Texas" was a racist? Not questioning you, just wanting to know.

But you can't support any type of "SHA IS A RACIST" claim. So yeah, you pretty much judged me.

If you want to get to "consistent" you'll have to at least get to 1 instance.

What will you call me next? lol

I don’t know sir, I’m thinking 45-38 good guys.
That sounds about right to me.

I don't understand the big ranking OU gets when they will field a QB who has really no experience. I realize OU's schemes are great, but it all starts at QB.

Reverse racism doesn't exist.  In other words a black person cannot be racist against a white person.  Racism is defined as a political, economic  or social system in which a dominant race uses it's power to oppress others.  We often refer to racism as discriminatory acts but that doesn't define racism in it's totality.  Black people do not have the power to oppress white people.  Black people can certainly hate white people but to be racist is not at all possible...
