The Longhorns have had limited success on the ground this season, but as the offensive line gained experience and developed chemistry down the stretch, it looked as though Texas was finally establishing the smash mouth identity Charlie Strong had been looking for. Arkansas has a typically physical SEC front-seven, so Johnathan Gray and Malcolm Brown will need some help from the big fellas in front of them to create holes in the run game. Quarterback Tyrone Swoopes would also be wise to use his legs when possible, as he seems to have the most success in the passing game when he is a threat to run.
The biggest thing for Swoopes and the Longhorns’ air attack is to avoid turnovers. The sophomore quarterback’s biggest weakness this season was his inability to take care of the football, with the most obvious example being the team’s last game of the season against TCU. Swoopes won’t be able to beat the Razorbacks on his own, he’ll need help from his backs, but by taking care of the football and tossing a couple timely deep balls, he will put his team in position to win.
The Razorbacks are the penultimate run-first team. With two 1,000-yard rushers, it’s clear that Arkansas’ offensive identity lies in its ability to establish a dominant ground attack and pass only when it needs to. Led by defensive tackle Malcom Brown, the Longhorns have enough size and skill in their front seven to slow down the Arkansas run game, but it’ll take a complete team effort. Expect Texas to load the box early and often in an attempt to force the Razorbacks to win the game through the air.
The Razorbacks passing game is designed to complement the rushing attack, as quarterback Brandon Allen serves as more of a game manager under center than anything else. No signal caller enjoys being labeled with such a moniker, but Allen does a great job of leading the office, coming up with important throws to extend drives and avoiding turnovers. The junior has thrown 18 touchdowns compared to just five interceptions in 2014. Texas will be focused on stopping the run, but the secondary will have to be mindful of Allen and his receiving corps, especially on third downs and in the red zone.
The Longhorn special teams have been miserable all season, struggling to find consistency from their kicker and punters and consistently giving up big plays. They’ll need a complete performance from all aspects of their special teams unit against the Razorbacks. Arkansas hasn’t needed much from its kicking game this season, as the Razorbacks have attempted just 12 field goals and converted only eight, both SEC lows. With neither team having had much success on special teams this season, it will likely be the group that makes the least mistakes that comes out on top.

UT travels well, always has... as for the game itself, it will again come down to Swoopes... so goes Swoopes, so goes the success of the O and potential victory.
