I'd guess if Card gets the start, the fans will be brutal. It won't be popular. I'd say if Ewers gets the start, he'll have full fan support. At practice, the difference was noticeable, and that was just a few thousand.

Whoever is 1 or 2, we saw last year that injuries change things quickly.
If that's true, its wrong. Just wrong. Whoever Sark puts out there should get our full support.

Than I gotta assume you don't watch much UT/CFB-related content on YouTube. Because if you did, videos from that "Locked on Longhorns Podcast" channel (& other UT/CFB-related channels) would constantly be recommended to you.

TFB reporting this evening that their sources are split on who the starting QB will be.

CJ Vogel posted the story, thinks Card will be named the starter. Doesn't think Ewers has played up to his hype thus far.

He also thinks Sark will name the starter after the weekend scrimmage.

But this is TEXAS, dont you know the fan base always knows better than the HC. If I guess correctly it really won't matter who is at QB, because I think we are going to see an offense that hasn't ever been seen in these parts, I think we are going to feed #5 the rock, and when defenses load the box receivers are going to get single coverage and get the ball in space, and 10 yd slants are going to be taken to the house....OK I will take off the burnt orange glasses for now

Those of you with FB, try Unfiltered Longhorn Talk for a few takes on the QB battle. Sorry, I can't cut and paste.

Antwain Brown and Chan Lee saying they think the race is over and why.

I echo TatumTx above, but I didn't know it until i watched that video...i guess I was secretly pulling for Ewers.  Like I said, i always stated whichever one wins the job is one Sark trusts and I'm good with that.  However, I have to admit that I was a tad disappointed when the video said sources were naming Card the starter.

I guess I got caught up in the hype and was tired of mediocre QB play over the last decade or so.  Sam was good, but he wasn't spectacular.  He was tough and had a will to win. This situation is taking me way back to the Simms/Applewhite saga.

I'm not a fan of Ketch or Anwar, but they said something that really resonated with me about VY and Colt not really having the light come on until year 3 of the program.  I know Colt had a really good 1st year, but he really struggled in year 2.  Wasn't until his 3rd year when you saw a huge difference and the game really slowed down for him.  Maybe that's what is happening with Card. I will rally behind either QB and hope for huge year.

As always Hook'em and lets turn CFB upside down this year.

Ketch says/thinks it will be Card.
**IF**  we have a competent defense, I could see things working well with Card **IF** he has progressed in avoiding turnovers. With the RBs we have we can have an offense that centers on the run game with short/intermediate passing game and RPO keeping defenses honest. Some deep shots will be there and unfortunately Card was particularly bad at connecting on those last year. If he has some improvement there things can really work with the offense. Even the threat of the deep ball can open up the underneath passing game and some running lanes. This is the complementary football approach that Sark talked about last year that never came to fruition.

Sounds like Ewers has more ability to make the big play and deep pass but may also be more turnover prone and perhaps not be as comfortable running the basic offense at this point.

Here is the last thing I will say on this issue, I want whichever guy has a better command of the offense and more importantly is the leader on the field.  I know Bijan and Rojo can fill that role, but the QB needs to be someone that keeps his cool, can calm emotional guys down and can steady a ship when it's rocking. Sam E. didn't have all he gifts of a QB, but he was the unequivocal leader of those teams.  I'm hoping that Card has the confidence of his teammates behind him and they rally around him.  Ultimately, having that confidence from those guys is all that matters.  To hell with us fans.  We're fickle.  If Card somehow keeps things close with Bama or god forbid they win, the fans will be saying Ewers who?

Both Colt & VY redshirted their freshman years. So the first year you're talking about was actually his 2nd year in the program and his 3rd year was the struggle year. His 4th year would be the one you're saying it clicked for him.

The thing is because Ewers reclassified, last year was basically his redshirt year. If he's the talent we are to believe he is, he's in college for 2 more seasons. So here's the rub. Whoever Sark names, he really needs to stick with them throughout the season. We need some consistency at QB. If it's Card, Sark is basically throwing away 1 of the 2 seasons he likely has with Ewers. Then comes next year, unless Card has done a lot of work in the classroom and plans on grad transferring somewhere else, he's coming back next year. That means Sark either sticks with is starting QB for the 2022 season or he opens up another QB battle for the third year in a row while he's head coach. That doesn't look good for a QB guru. He then has to either bench the QB from 2022 for Ewers or he tells Ewers he's QB2 again & he likely transfers. Either way, it's a messy situation. And if you're Sark, you better hope Card is good enough next year because 8-4 will not look good with all the talent he will have and that Oline group. I want Sark to work out but starting Card will really put him in a tough situation. He has to hit on that guy being THE GUY. If he has that deer in the headlight look again against Bama. Sark can't really go to Ewers the next because it will be a "here we go again" and "why didn't you just start Ewers" from a lot of people. It will put his decision making into question. But if you start Ewers, you will get some turnovers but you will get some wow plays. And there will be plenty of fans & boosters who will forgive some things because it's the young gunslinger learning on the job. And then you don't have the QB controversy next spring. Ewers is your QB1, he will learn more of the playbook and you can get a grad transfer to come back him up if Murphy isn't ready. Ewers may not be ready to full actualize Sark's offense, but if his natural talent has made it where Card hasn't completely pulled away even with an extra year in the system, maybe go with him. But I guess we will see. And maybe Sark will see his prized QB's being coached by someone else in 3 years based off what he decides in a week.

Is it writen in stone mustname asyarter by game one? Game one playthem both should win it with Wright starting.

Same with Ala. play both, two game action then name your starter!

Then come the more important games. IfTexas ever had amust win game it is OU. To me it is now or never.

Ohio State isn't crying Ewers is gone.

I agree, let the fans watch the QB battle in games. It's better for both QB's, and the coach. Stops all the naysayers.
