Okay, week 1 down and Texas has a lot to work on.
Offense looked timid and unsure at times in the 1st half. A lot of that had to do with the OL. QE was panicking at times and RBs were waiting too long for something materialize. Would like Sark to let QE check out of run play more when they see 7 and sometimes 8 man fronts (Rice did that a lot of predictable downs). Perfect example was the TD to Sanders. Rice was selling out for the run and a nice little pop pass went the distance.
Everything settled down in the 3rd qtr and they looked like who we thought they were. OL looked better, QE looked more poised and started distributing the ball to more guys and RBs starting hitting holes faster.
Defense was solid all day long. DL had constant pressure on the vet QB and was stout against the run. The only negative I could see was the LBs, particularly Gbenda, were out of position at times on the crossing routes. DBs were solid, but they really weren't challenged because of the DL pressure.
STs were good. Auburn is solid (I don't count that 57 yd fg he missed). Only miscue I saw was the kick out of bounds which can never happen.
Week 2 - I'll be honest, I expect Texas to lose this game, always have. I don't think they're there yet. I'm okay with that. I never bought into the CFP train, but I fully expect a B12 conf championship. Just need this team to get better week in and week out. If they go the whole season and the 1st half against Rice was the worst they played, then fantastic. Every team in the B12 is beatable (even the mighty Sooners who beat up on a weak, weak, weak Ark St team. Rice would beat that Ark St by at least 28 points imo. They were that bad).
