11 players set to emerge as CFB’s next superstars

BIJAN ROBINSON, RB, TEXAS

Robinson had a quiet start to the 2020 campaign, serving as the third back in a deep running back rotation. By season’s end, he radiated the potential that made him the top overall back in the 2020 class. Robinson finished the regular season with 173 yards on nine carries against Kansas State. Then he popped off in the Alamo Bowl with 183 yards and three touchdowns on just 10 carries.

Overall, Robinson averaged 8.9 yards a touch in 2020. Given Steve Sarkisian’s history with running backs – his past pupils include Najee Harris and Ronald Jones – Robinson promises to be the featured part of Texas’ 2021 attack. If that’s the case, Robinson has the potential to be the Longhorns’ top back since Ricky Williams.

They have Bijan as the second best running back coming back next year which I believe is too low. Sark has said that the least defended player is the running back. Sark was around with Norm Chow when Reggie Bush was running and catching passes. Najee Harris caught 43 passes last year which I expect Bijan to equal this year.

2. Bijan Robinson, Texas

Between his production as a freshman and head coach Steve Sarkisian's arrival, Bijan Robinson might be the breakout pick of 2021.

Robinson arrived with enormous hype because of his 5-star billing but didn't have a key role immediately. He managed only 19 touches in Texas' first four contests. But in the final six, he tallied 733 yards from scrimmage and scored six times.

Sarkisian, who called plays for national-champion Alabama, helped Najee Harris have an incredible year. Harris rushed for 1,466 yards, caught 43 passes for 425 yards and totaled 30 touchdowns.

Robinson is a similar kind of versatile talent, and there's no doubt Sarkisian will build the offense around his star running back.

I'm curious what everyone's thoughts are on this.  Does Texas have enough talent on the roster to win the Big12 next year?  If so, so they have enough to win at least one playoff game?

My personal thoughts are I think Texas has enough talent to be in the B12 title game, but the talent level is slightly under OU at this time.  Not at every position, but slightly overall.  That doesn't mean they can't beat OU if the coaching is on point.  Imo, here is my comparison of each unit based on what I saw last year and what is coming back for each team:

Offense

Pos - edge

QB - OU (This could change, but both Thompson and Card are unknown at this time. Rattler was impressive, but not all-world)

RB - UT (Bijan trumps everyone OU has)

WR - OU (Overall, I think OU has great talent here, but Smith, Whittington and Moore COULD be legit with proper playcalling and coaching. To me, this was the #1 diff between the groups last year. Riley knew how to use them)

TE - = (I think Texas has better athletes / talent here, but OU knows how to use theirs)

OL - OU (until this unit gets into UTs favor, OU will have a better offense overall. This is the key group to flip the script)

DL - UT (the loss of Perkins for OU will be huge for them. Losing Ossai does hurt, but overall I think UT has enough returning and young talent to be almost elite...almost.  Again, depends on the coaching)

LB - = for now (this is a tough one for me because I think Overshown will be elite and I think Mitchell is solid. I think UT has good, young talent, but still raw.  OU has a solid group across the board, but none seem to be elite)

DB - OU (I like our DBs across the board, but I still get anxious against a passing team. UT seems to be in position in man, but they have hard time getting their heads around on the ball and they still had miscommunication when in zone.  I think OU is very similar to UT in this group, but just slightly more solid.  Again, proper coaching, playcalling and technique teaching could flip this to UTs favor.)

ST - OU slightly (Jamison can be a game changer on KO and P return and i don't see anyone on OU at that level. However, the edge to OU is because of the kicking game. OU has had consistent, reliable kicking for years now. Dicker is the best UT has had since Anthony Fera, but he is a little inconsistent for my taste. It just feels like OU never misses a kick, minus the 4OT game last year.)

I could be completely off on this assessment, but I think UT is very close and , with the right coaching, could flip the narrative in this matchup.

Offense

Pos - edge

QB - OU (This could change, but both Thompson and Card are unknown at this time. Rattler was impressive, but not all-world).  Agree.

RB - UT (Bijan trumps everyone OU has). Agree. We match them on depth, too.

WR - OU (Overall, I think OU has great talent here, but Smith, Whittington and Moore COULD be legit with proper playcalling and coaching. To me, this was the #1 diff between the groups last year. Riley knew how to use them). OU's Rambo went to the portal. Mims is the trump card here. He's better than anyone we have. We will get to finally see Omeire next season. He was the talk of camp in the Fall before injury. I actually think Moore will throw up some numbers this year.

TE - = (I think Texas has better athletes / talent here, but OU knows how to use theirs). Sark uses the TE. Jared Wiley is a star in the making. I disagree and give the edge to UT.

OL - OU (until this unit gets into UTs favor, OU will have a better offense overall. This is the key group to flip the script). OU's best, Creed Humphrey, is headed to the NFL. They had talent but their elite guy just left. We just had one of the best OL coaches land in our back yard. I think we have some talent but lacked coaching. I think that's over now. I'll call it a draw for now.

DL - UT (the loss of Perkins for OU will be huge for them. Losing Ossai does hurt, but overall I think UT has enough returning and young talent to be almost elite...almost.  Again, depends on the coaching). I think our depth is better and our interior is clearly better. We'll need some of that outside talent to show up. But the talent to be elite is there.

LB - = for now (this is a tough one for me because I think Overshown will be elite and I think Mitchell is solid. I think UT has good, young talent, but still raw.  OU has a solid group across the board, but none seem to be elite). Agree, a draw.

Can't really argue against that other than hopefully we get some better instruction/technique this year.

It just feels like OU never misses a kick, minus the 4OT game last year.). Jamison can take it to the house at any time. I like having that threat. Even if he doesn't go the distance, he gets you in favorable field position. I don't know if thats a bigger edge than a kicker who may make a few more kicks than ours.

I could be completely off on this assessment, but I think UT is very close and , with the right coaching, could flip the narrative in this matchup.

IT saying official team workouts will begin this week.

Players have been doing mostly 1-on-1 work with the new S&C coach to this point.
