That is indeed good news, McPhaul!
I think Powers has been of great benefit to The University, with respect to maintaining its status as a University of the First Class (Ag Governor Attack Alert!). Patterson is a professional that was hired to do a job, and he was approved by Powers. It is good to know that he has Powers' support.

Darrell, it seems we've heard on more than one occasion that Powers isn't supportive of hiring Saban. Has this changed with his distancing himself from Mack? Also, how would the Special Asst to the President role that Mack would slide into work out between he and Powers? It seems that whether Powers likes Saban or not, he's not going to have any say so or veto power over potentially impacting a Saban hire should Nick remain interested.

On a different note, I mentioned in our last Crossfire that Powers & Brown neutered themselves from having any say in the HC selection going forward. You have heard from several different sources that Powers & Brown are no longer on speaking terms. You wonder why?
I'm hearing that Powers is now trying to distance himself from Brown in order to show that he is unified with the Selection Committee. This is an important front when agents & potential candidates are considering the job. Very important when it comes to Saban.

Gonna be hard for Mack to fulfill his new duties as Special Assistant to the President if he and Powers aren't speaking.

Powers was not in favor of Saban. However, he lost his vote by not handling the Mack resignation in a timely manner. Powers will approve what he is told to approve.

Anything is possible. Seems like we wouldn't be hearing rumblings that we are still negotiating with Saban's camp. It could be that he is hearing that it is all but a done deal and reporting it in a way that makes it sound like it is already done. Who really knows at this point.

"ruse" isn't the word I'd apply to the formation of a committee. It's camouflage. The deed is done. A search committee cannot seek a coach for a vacancy that no longer exists.

Art Briles wasn't interviewed, much less considered for a position at Texas that's already been filled.

He'll be named publicly the day after the Alamo Bowl and it's not anyone that plays a bowl game after Texas.

Who is coaching in a bowl game before ours that we would want? I guess I need to look at the bowl schedule again. I thought our game was on the earlier side. All BCS games are after ours.

I guess that means Charlie Strong from Louisville. Hmmm
