Much to my chagrin, Patterson & team have done a decent job on keeping as much news as possible on the low down.

I'm fortunate enough to have friends is several different camps so, I have been able to finagle some info out of them.

If you have a membership to any other site, you can see that all of them are very conservative when it comes to talking about Saban.

I understand this to a certain extent but, I can't see how any message board can really prevent the deal from going down. I look at it this way, if I know about it

then I would think that the big boosters and Bama are aware that there is still a solid chance that Saban is still considering the move.

Does not talking about it really increase our chances that much?

On a different note, I mentioned in our last Crossfire that Powers & Brown neutered themselves from having any say in the HC selection going forward. You have heard from several different sources that Powers & Brown are no longer on speaking terms. You wonder why?

I'm hearing that Powers is now trying to distance himself from Brown in order to show that he is unified with the Selection Committee. This is an important front when agents & potential candidates are considering the job. Very important when it comes to Saban.

There is definitely still some smoke regarding Saban. I'm in the camp that I'm going to believe it when I see it.

Thanks for the update for sure.

As much as we are on pin's and needle's, waiting to hear who the next HC will be, it seems to me that Patterson has come in and already started to live up to his reputation. Pardon the pun, but IMO, Patterson has taken the bull by the horns and really seems to be controlling the process. While the lack of information has me feeling like an addict trolling for his next fix of information, from whatever source I can get it, I think that Patterson and the committee are handling it correctly. In addition, I think this is also indicative of how the atmosphere is going to be changing with the UT Athletic Program. Just my two cents.

That is indeed good news, McPhaul!

I think Powers has been of great benefit to The University, with respect to maintaining its status as a University of the First Class (Ag Governor Attack Alert!). Patterson is a professional that was hired to do a job, and he was approved by Powers. It is good to know that he has Powers' support.

Way to Go, President Powers!

Hook 'em!

Well that's going to make for some awkward days at work.

How Dabo Swinney's name keeps appearing is puzzling to me.

How can Saban not be on the list is the bigger question. Charlie Strong as the most likely candidate?????? What are they smoking????

Sportsbook is a betting site. Strong being the most likely is just saying that is where the money is being bet. They are not saying what will happen but giving odds in case you want to bet.

It's Vegas. There is no telling what they're smoking nor how much.

This list makes me wish I could bet these odds in a market and not just as house prop bets. I would sell Franklin aggressively at just over 2-1. No way he gets hired by Bellmont with the rape case hanging over the Vandy program and attorneys fighting to see texts between coaches and involved players to determine what the coaching staff knew when. I'd also sell Gruden and, at 7-2 also Briles (not every fan has forgotten him ranking Texas as 5th in the coaches poll in 2008 prior to calculating who would be playing in the MNC game that year).

They can leave Saban off because this is a list of prop bets. If Saban is the next coach, anyone betting on the other candidates (everyone who bet) loses and the house keeps the money. Not being able to reasonably set odds on Saban because lack of accurate info on his interest makes it easy to leave him off the list. Also, running this book is effectively a massive bet on Saban with no downside. As long as the rest of the money is balanced, if Saban is the coach, the house keeps all the wagers (plus the vig). If Saban isn't the next coach, the house keeps the vig. Nice work if you can get it.

The funny thing here is that insiders can bet this if they want. Its a thin market so you would think any amount of money would move the odds appreciably. It could be interesting to keep an eye on. This is the only online book on the Texas coach I know of at the moment.
