nothing is a done deal until he is on tv saying im the next coach of texas, I applaud the horns for having a backup plan. Fisher is a fantastic coach but saban is one of the greatest, either way texas will be in a position to win right away.

Thanks McPhaul. I'm glad to hear Jimbo is the backup if for some reason Saban doesn't work out. That's a damn good plan B and I would be extremely happy if it still ends up being Jimbo who I thought was a long shot until now.

Thanks for the information. It's always nice to have a backup plan in case Saban has a medical condition that prevents him from moving to Texas, gets kidnapped, or simply changes his mind (let's face it, the man can be fickle). You always have to cover your ass in a scenarios like this due to soooooooo many outside influences. Patterson is doing the smart thing here. I like that backup plan.

Why is it so hard for you to understand that when you use phrases like "100% Saban is the next coach", "Saban to Texas", and "Saban a done deal"... it means that there is no need for a contingency plan because it is certain that it will happen. This is the 2nd time you're back tracking. If Saban is a "done deal" for a 2nd time now, why is there a need for a back up? Unless it's not a done deal?

Done deals do not need contingency plans. Almost done deals do. With that I think most sources get a sense that Saban has indicated he will come but again until it's signed sealed and delivered it's not done. But hey what do I know I am just a nobody.

What is a tier 2 coach? Because many of the tier one today were once considered tier two.

I think what has a lot of the good folks on here on edge is the term "done deal" being used loosely. Folks read "done deal" and that's what they believe it is. In fact, something's not a "done deal" until it actually is. Just my opinion what is causing angst among many of the good folks here.

Actually a done deal is almost always better having a backup plan in place. Right up to the signing of the deal. Even after. It puta pressure on the other party to fulfill their agreement and thereafter live up to it. It's a basic part of negotiating.

In my life, my biggest disappointments have been due to not having a backup plan in place. Total reliance on one outcome is a formula for disaster.

I think Texas got in trouble with Coach Brown by not having a backup plan. Years ago when Dodds, McCombs, Jamail and Moffett told him he could leave Texas on his terms there was no backup plan in place. They did not equate for the fact that Mack could lose control of the program ( for whatever reason, that's a different debate.) failure to have a backup plan has lead to four years in he wilderness. Lost and wandering about.

Had he been told he could leave on his own terms provided he meet certain benchmarks we would have had a backup plan. I don't believe anyone ever gave Coach Brown those benchmarks. That's on DeLoss and Mack and anyone else that made that statement to a coach Brown.

Well stated. This contingency was in place when the info on Saban came out the other day. This does not change anything. There is nothing new here except that McPhaul just released the info today. We don't want to get caught with our pants down at the last minute should some last second snag come up. This is not a reaction to the info that McPhaul released yesterday nor the Forde article.

Okay, I like this site and I always hope that what you guys post is true, but what the hell does your post even mean?

Over analyzing what? How can you over analyze the meaning of a done deal? And these folks are thinking different than us? Do you have a direct line to Patterson, Hicks, Sexton? How do you know what they are thinking?

The sources you guys have either told you it was a done deal when it wasn't or they felt confident and you guys jumped the shark again about it being a done deal. These are the only two possibilities. If they are putting in place a back up plan, then it is not a done deal.

If they have agreed to terms but have not signed anything, it's not a done deal.

Also, if they are in touch with Fisher as a back up option, I find it very hard to believe he is vetting assistant coaches as a back up plan when he has a national championship game coming up. I can see him doing that if he has an actual offer on the table.
